Scale Model RC Helicopters > Making a 30 Size Fuse's, Doors Open

Hi can I pick a brain or two, I would like to make two doors and two hatches on my equirell / squirell fuse 30 size that is going into Shuttle ZTS mechanics set, Open. Is this ok, ie no problem. and if so there are already the panel lines for me, what is the best way to cut them out ? I have a Dremmel with cutting disks. If when I have cut the panels out, I presume you put some balsa / Ply behind the cut out area, so as to make a type of door stop? and then will the Vario hinges be ok on a 30 size machine.

Many Thanks

About the cutting and the plywood behind de doorframe you are right but about the hinges I think they are a little bit to big for a 30 size helikopter.

On a 30 size fuse, the glass is really not thick enough for the door itself, so you will have to build up the rear surface also, as the door will warp after cutting it out of the fuse. Same with the fuse, as you will need a jamb all the way around it to stop the door from falling is. All the Vario hinges are way too big for a 30 size. You will have to try and fabricate your own using something like the hinges the plank guys use for the moving surfaces.

Install door stiffner framework before you cut out the door so it will retain its shape after removal....

HI Keith you should try a hot knife, get a old blade and heat it so that its just going red, then follow the panel lines putting some pressure on it and bingo one panel cut out.

Workes far better than a Dremmel if you want to keep both sides and it can go round tight corners
