e-Minicopter Joker > Tanic vs Thunder Power

I just got a used Joker CX with 24-4 motor and 70-32 esc. Planning on getting a lithium pack for this bird. Is there any real difference between Tanic and Thunder Power? Which is better?

Thanks,

From what I understand the Thunder cells are rated at 6C and the Tanic cells are rated to 10C discharge capacity.

The thunder cells are around twenty dollars a cell for packs, and the Tanic cells are around twenty five dollars a cell.

See joe's add for Jokers on the front page of RR, he has a line on the Tanic packs.

both the tanics and thunderpower will do well.

the tanics are currently rated for higher current . thunderpower in the next few weeks will also be releasing 10c higher current cells..

I have been running 10s 4p Thunder power Lipos in my Joker for about a year now and I am very happy with the results
I do have the new Gen 10s 4p Thunder Power Lipos on order as well

I had a friend come up and fly the Tanic pack that Joe sells and after a 5 min flight some of the cells in the pack swelled up, so he flew the rest of the day on my some of my Thunder Power pack
And he said that he was going to order some Thunder Power Pack
I don't know what happend with the Tanic pack
I have hear a lot of good things about them (until this happend)

I use the Tanic 11s2p from Joe, and i have an Tanic 11s3p coming in in next week which is being converted from a 11s2p to a 3p configuration.

The 11s2p is good for medium aerobatics. 10 minutes per flight. I expect the 11s3p to handle high load like tic-tocs, etc.

i like the packs and service from Joe.

I will second that, I have no experience with the batterys fromJoe, but the service and support is sellar!

I just got the Tanic 11s3p pack last friday. Did 5 flights on weekend.
Joker has 24-4 with 22t pinion. Flights are 14 minutes mild 3d.
Tried a couple of tick-tocks but got feeling there isn't enough full pitch grunt to pull them off cleanly, plus the possible burnup problem with the 70-32. Drawing heavy amps and voltage is a no-no with that esc.

pack temp was average 115-130 deg f on middle cells, compared to 140-155 deg f on 11s2p. This is much better for pack longevity, IMHO.

I"m sending my other 11s2p to be converted as well.

Net step is to get the new CC HV as soon as available and converting the Joker 1st stage gear reduction to 3 to 1 with a 60t/20t gears. That should increase the power output.

What is the difference between a 11s3p pack and a 10s4p pack? Oh I know the voltage is different. One is 37 volts and the other is 40.7 volts. One uses 33 cells and the other uses 40 cells. The 33 cell pack is obviously the lighter one. What is the difference in performance?

Thanks,

Sailmike, the 10s4p is heavier, probably 10 ounces more, with a little more capacity. My 11s3p is a 6600mah capacity , versus a 7600 mah Gen 2 TP pack. They will have a 8000 pack soon. I can tell you that going from a 11s2p to a 11s3p with approx 1 lb more weight has affected how snappy my rolls are, but generally the performance is pretty close, with more duration. Sooo, depending on how your pinion, less voltage will represent a loss of something like 70rpm of HS. On my setup it would go from 1760 to 1700 rpm.
It depends on you style of flying and likes.
both configurations will work fine, with the TP 10s4p running likely even cooler then my average temps.

How are you setting up the Throttle Jockey on the Joker?
