Hi Guys,

First post on this forum! Been flying helis for the last 2 or 3 years, all Kyosho & JR, now feel the need for a scale model, have my heart set on an Alouette, but want to get used the handling (and direction of rotation!) of a Vario before committing a scale model to the sky, which is recomended? Currently unable to decide between Sky Fox & Kobold, I know the Kobold is the budget version, but for regular (non 3D flying and scale, is it enough?

Hope to hear from all you Vario experts out there! I just got my copy of their catalogue and haven't put it down for 4 days now! I even take it to the field and read it between flights!

Cheers,

Dave the skyfox and the kabold are basicly the same heli. Most of the parts are interchangable. I chose the kabold and love it. Also have a foxy and like it to.

The only difference between the two is this; Skyfox has all aluminum bells, kabold has GRP. Skyfox is all bearings, kabold is some bearings, but not on the washout or pitch arms. Skyfox is torque tube drive, kabold is wire drive. For most scale applications, the Kabold is fine. All the drive systems with the fuses come with the kit, so you would have to adapt your drive on the kabold to match.

Get the Skyfox and you won't regret it. It has everything that you need.

Kobold

I have a Kobold that I am building with the UH-1D kit. Only thing extra I did was buy the ball bearing pack so it now has all the bearings. I also bought the 120 degree CCPM kit (only $9). I dont care for the stock 90 degree CCPM.

If you complare my Kobold to a Sky Fox, they are exactly the same. Except the Sky Fox has more metal parts. If I was going to be doing some hard flying I would have gotten the Sky Fox. But, since this is for a scale body, the Kobold is just fine.

I also have a Kobold and love it.

I have spent about $100.00 on minor upgrades, a few BB's (Boca Bearing), 120 deg CCPM servo mounts, rotor head brake button, claw coupler to replace the hook & loop coupler at the gearbox.

Nothing different then the similar bucks I spend on "upgrades" to my other helis.

I just dont see the $$$ difference between the Kobold and the SkyFox.
