I have GY601s installed in both my Fury and my X-cell custom and both gyros are doing the same thing. I figure its probably something I have set wrong, but I have checked over them both and I cannot figure it out. Basically I get major tail woofage in FFF if I take the gains above 70%. In hover, its fine up to about 80% as long as I sit still. If I do any tail movements, such as a quick stab to the right or left, it goes into a wild little hunting episode when I stop. Woofs really bad during nose in funnels too.

I am using:
JR10SXII
GY601 w/servo
NHP 105s on Xcell custom
MS 107s on Fury
Booms and supports are good and tight.

Any info or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks
Eric

Wagging?

I assume that it is wagging quickly left and right. That's what we call hunting. That is due to the gain being set to high.

Yes, I do know what hunting is and yes that is what it is doing. However, it shouldnt be hunting at 70% gain. I was able to crank the gain up to around 85% with the 401 that I had on the Xcell custom before it would even think about hunting. I am thinking that maybe there is a function on the 601 that I dont have set right. Maybe a 601 guru could help me out on that one.

Thanks again guys,
Eric

i am hearing from various professional, that gain at 50 to 70% is okay for GY501/2/601.

i guess it all depends on the servo horn length too. On my 601 i had 12.5mm horn and the was at 70+. Now i have changed the horn to 15mm, but have not flown yet.

The reason i did was to make the LmtA/B closer to 100%. with 12.5mm they were 145% in each direction.

I guess the rules here is to have somewhat long servo horn, that effectively increases the speed of tail control response, so that only small and fast gyro corrections are necessary vs. large and slow.

Mine is at 32% and I fly full speed backwards, death spirals, tail slides and no problems whatsoever.

Whew

I had the same issue. I thought it was just me. Once I got the gain setting down to 40% in FFF It locks perfect I'm using the Gyro sensing adjustment in the 9C radio.

601 gain

I have the gain turned down to 36% on the box and it will fly full speed backwards with no problem. You could do 200ft rolling tailslids without pushing out the tail. You have to keep the gain down low on this gyro or you will destroy your tail gears. This is one very aggresive gyro combo. You shouldn't set it like any other gyro by turning it up till it wags then down, you should actually turn it down low till it barely works then slowly crank it up. On a fury your safe to be in the 30 - 40% range with high head speeds(1700-1850) and about 50-60% in the lower ranges(1500-1600) be real careful about high gains if you are going to have a high piro rate or hardcore backwards stuff it will eat your crown gear and tail bevel gears for lunch. This thing will hold like a vise on low gain settings.

Are you guys using the remote gain function from the Tx or the gain adjustment on the amp box? Right now I am using the remote gain function on my 10SXII (code 44) and have left the gain on the box at 100%. Did I maybe miss something or am I correct in doing things this way?

Also, what exactly does the tracking adjustment do on this gyro. I know what I read in the book, but it still doesnt make complete sense to me.

Thanks again for the help.

I use remote gain in my 9C. The Amp on the Gyro reads 100%

Thoughts about traking adjustment... I'm just guessing here but it seems a way to adjust the thing without getting a perfect length adjustment on the control rod. Not real sure here, mine is at the default setting. This isn't an issue for me, I just read it in the manual and it still has me baffeled.

601

I am using the remote gain but it shows actual gain on the amp box screen when you turn it on it will show actual gain without going into the menu. Its the screen that shows volts and mode it also shows gain. your menu gain setting will still show 100%. As far as tracking don't mess with it unless you have serious differences between left and right Piros.
