Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering how many of you are using the YS .80 in the R60? I know Sluggo is.

I'd really be interested in any experiences, and setups out there.

Thanks,

Clay

Hey Clay what info you looking for? I have mine dialed in great now and making huge power. One thing I am really loving with this setup is it is so quit. I can come down into a hover up right or invert and it does not sound like it is going to blow up even at 1900rpm on the head.

My rebuilt motor still only has one gallon through it but it has smoothed out great with the new barrel in it and the heli is not showing any signs of stress from the motor at all.

If there is anything you want to know about my setup let me know and I will list it for you.

Hey Clay, John (heli4me) is about to put in a new YS-80 in his R-60. He should be able to get you some good information soon. It was nice visiting with you at the Wichita Fun Fly last weekend and thanks for the torque tube/tail boom bearing assemblies!

Hi Sluggo and Rotor.

Oh, nothing really in particular. I just thought I'd spark a little conversation.

From our experiences I believe the R60 is going to make a fantastic machine for the .80. I was just wondering how many pilots out there are doing this and thought it would be good if we all shared info for the betterment of the machine.

Rotor Let me know how you get along with the bearing assemblies. I'm headed out to the shop to make canopies for John.

Hi Clay! My R80 setup is

8.45 gear ratio
ys 80/ kjs 80 muffler
lower frame brace
carbon frames
metal Arams and oval links
quick swash plate
rocket city links everywhere
Oring head upgrade
metal TT fan
MA white 3d paddels
550cc fuel tank
carbon boom supports
carbon fins
mod tube drive with two support bearings

I am using MAH 685 3D blades with the stock tail blades. Other things I have done to strengthen the heli is to change some of the stock TT bolts to hardend JR ones. All balls are jr also, not sure if it is need but I didn't want to take any chances.

Radio gear setup

9C futaba radio
9252ds on cyclics and pitch
9202 on throttle
gy502 with 9250ds servo on tail
gv-1 set to 1650 in normal and 1750 and 1900rpm for idle ups.
2700mah nimah rx pack.

So far I have tryed everything I know how to do with a heli and the rappy pulled through great. It is more like flying a sim then a real heli. It has so much power you can try and do anything you want. One thing I am loving is monster high speed knife edges. Before the 80 you had to be high up to knife edge but with the 80 I can do a knife edge 10 feet off the deck and the length of the feild!

The first 80 I had was one of the old ones and had nothing but trouble with it but now I have one with the updates it right out rocks!!!!!!!!

I am hoping to have some vid of it soon and some pic's of the setup I will post them when I do.

Chris,

My son and each have one. We are trying different things on each. TO date here is where we are at.

Rap #1
YS .80
KSJ muffler
8.45 gear
Quick Metal Fan
Lower carbon brace.
Lower frame stiffeners
Carbon boom braces
Carbon collective tray
Long boom
Aluminum drive shaft with 2 custom bearing supports
680 mm V Blades
V paddles on a 500 mm flybar
JR tail hub
NHP 105 tail blades
550 cc tank
o-ring dampners
Ouick UK Swashplate
Metal washout base.
Metal A arms and hoops
Rocket Cit links on the stock balls.

Radio
JR 10x
Collective 8411
Cyclic 8231s
Rudder 2700g
Throttle 8417
Gyro 5000t

Rap #2

Same as #1 with the following exceptions

weighted 450mm flybar & SAB Paddles
710 NHP Razor MAIN blades
NHP 95mm tail blades
Carbon Frames
Metal bearing blocks

Radio:

JR 10x
Collective and cyclic 8411s
Rudder 8700g

If things continue as they are I see no "real" need for the carbon frames or metal bearing blocks.

We are still trying to settle on a flybar /paddle combo. We want the roll rate to be about a roll a second and we are not quite there yet. Running the head 1800 to 1850.

We will more than likely ditch the 710 Razors for the 680mm V blades

These two machines are going well and we are very pleased. We've never flown anything with this much power before. My son likes to jump off the ground and immediately go into "tic-tocs." For me they are kind of scary but they look cool with the tail 5 to 7 feet off the ground. The YS never complains and he can keep it there until he wants to do something else. That takes a lot of power.

One more note, other than a little tank chaffing these two machines have basically been fuel and fly. Aside from the experimenting, we fly, check, clean, & put them away.

YS 80

Hey guys, I was out watching Chris (sluggo) and some other "heavy hitters" flying the 80's this afternoon.......only ONE way to describe it...............AWSOME!!

Bob and Kev are breaking in their's, so going a bit easy yet......but Chris???......look out Curtis!!!
Chris is goin' for the gold........hehehe...he was rippin' up the sky all the while with a HUGE grin on his face, the 80 never missed a beat........I think everyone had a huge grin watching Chris do his thing.

The term "sluggo" has taken on a new meaning......Chris is "sluggin' the crap out of the sky!!....Nice going Chris.

The 80's are MONSTER ANIMALS, there is no other way to describe them, as Chris said...very quiet too. I had to leave and I'm sure there are some hurtin' cheeks from all that smiling going on today.......hehehe

80 DOESN'T PRODUCE HUGE POWER

The 80 produces alot of mid torque. I still think the YS 61 runs it nuts off. Have both and not impressed with 80. The cost of the mufflers are crazy!!!!!

HEHEHEHE glad you liked the flying blade and thank you for the kind words. I went a little crazy after you left and got into the sim mode. There will be vid up on the net soon of everyone out today.

Joe you must have something wrong with your 80 or something. I ran a stll for a year and ran it hard and it does not even come close to my 80! Even with the needles almost tweeked (still on the rich side) it blows every stll I have ever seen out of the water.

Clay sounds like your son is a great pilot and I look forward to flying with you guys some day soon. I have alot of pic's of my set up that I took today but I can't upload them tell tuesday. Maybe they will get put on the net before then and I will link it off to this post.

Clay I am running the white MA 3D paddles with MAH 685mm mains (185g) and getting great roll rate and a good stable hover. I think I am going to try the long boom and 105mm tail blades along with 690mm mains and see how that works out. I would like to try out some of these tube drive bearings you are using.

How do you like the quick metal fan? I am running the TT metal fan and seems to work great. Anyway we all had a great day and of course the R80 was outstanding.

Chris,

The quick fans are ok, but they are a pain to dial in. Ended up using a adaptor nut for a Robbe machine so I could get it to dial in. With their set up It was impossible for me to get it set.. The metal TTR fan wasn't available yet when we bought these. If I'd buy another it would be the TTR unit.

About the bearings. I have a bunch ready to ship if you want some. I sell them for $20.00 each ready to install. They are fashioned after the Robbe units.

When we first got the R60s (V1) and after solving all the other problems we had a slight vibe in the tail we could not get rid of. I had these made and the shake went away. I believe they do two things:

1. They center the shaft exactly down the center of the boom.
2. They dampen vibration generated by moving parts.

We use two. My experience has been the Stock TTR torque tubes are not straight. We now use a 2013 Easton XX75 Platinum arrow shaft. They are straight to within .002.

The tail on each machine is now smooth as glass.

You'll like the long boom and 105 tail blades. Tail authority is much improved.

Thanks for the info Clay I sent you a email about the tube bearings.

Also if you have some pic's of the heli's and tube drives so I can show to a couple buds. So far I am seeing the same as you with the 80. The heli is basically a charge and fly heli. I added some 1/8 double sided tape and rounded the frames and it seems to be stopping the chaffing on the tanks for now. Only time will tell if it will work long term.

One other thing I found is the bolts that hold the landing gear on strip very easy so I drilled out the holes and added longer cap head bolts and lock nuts to tighten them down good.

Also can you send me the part # for the jr tail hub upgrade? I would like to try this out and add the thrust bearings and grips.

Sluggo,
I got a couple of the torque tube bearing setups from Clay when we were at the Wichita fun fly last weekend and they are very well made. You'll like them...
