e-Minicopter Joker > Joker-CX questions

I just picked up a second Joker at the Phoenix fun-fly, (used, but only 5 or 6 flights) and am looking for some recommendations for blades. The one I'm used to is the bigger Maxi-Joker with the 24-5 motor, this one is a Joker-CX with the 24-4 motor and standard ESC with governor.

This also will be used as a camera ship, but with an Airfoil Helicam M1-Carbon mount and small DV video camera with a downlink.

I plan on using the same batteries on both: 32 - 3300mAh NiMH cells until I get around to LiPo.
Servos: 3 Futaba 9202's for the CCPM (already have)
Gyro: Futaba GY-401/9253
Receiver: 9-channel Futaba 149DP PCM 50mHz
Power for receiver and servos: S-BEC

My main question is on the blades - I'm running 800mm NHP Razor Pro blades on the Maxi and like them, so I'm considering the 700's for the CX.

Anything else I should consider, blades or otherwise?

Thanks,
Greg

Greg, I tried the MAH blades early in '02 with my CX and really liked them. I have flown nothing else since.

I fly the 690 DT's mostly but have flown the 710's. I also like their tail blades.

Hi Tim,

Can you use 105 tail blades with 710 mains on the CX?

Greg,
Last fall Heliproz sent me some beta 700 Mavirick blades to try that I've been using ever since. They are heavy, but they work great for my application. I also have 30 for cyclic expo in my 9Z.

I'm in the same boat as you with trying my hand at video.
This is a newly released 3CCD cam that comes in under a pound:

Are you getting the kenlab gyro for the M1 mount?

Another thing I did was route my UBEC for only the cam servos and downlink.
I have a dedicated 1700 pack for the flight servos/gyros.

Cheers,
Jeff

hi Greg, i'm running the Rotortech 700/105's and really like them in my cx
weight is 193 gr.
I use a AA 1400 mah nicad pack for the servos/rx.

Tim
I don't think the 710 would fit with the 105. The 700's barely clear the 105's.

Cheers

Thanks for all the responses! I'll go for the 690's or 700's, depending on what MTA has in stock today.

Jeff - that appears to be a pretty slick video camera!

No, I don't have the gyro stabilizer (yet!), I plan on testing out the video system first and then seeing what makes sense.

I have 110's on the tail now and they just clear with the 710's...

I ended up with NHP 700's because - they were there! Actually, I like the NHP 800's on the Maxi-Joker, so this will look like someone planned it out that way!

Thanks,
Greg

Joker Blades

I just bought a set of MAH 690's and 105's for my Joker and laid them on top of the Stock Joker Blades . . .I defy you to actually be able measure any significant difference! You will need your Calipers!
The Tip shape/angle is the largest difference.
I can visually track the rotor disc better with the MAH . . .the black and white seperation is a nice visual effect.
I will also tell you they are very STIFF! compared to the stock blades, but the stock Joker blades are very nice for the money.

We'll be trying the NEW Carbon MAH Paddles soon . . .way too cool to put on right now I just want to fondle them some more!!!

My $0.02 . . .

Another major difference in the MAH's over any of the other blades is the safety cable... I've broken 2 sets now (over 2 years) and the cables inside work. The blade tips stay connected to the roots in the event of breaking in a mishap.

We just put VBlades and paddles on one of the Maxi Jokers and it couldn't fly any better.

Yea the 800's are hard to get ahold of, but then again so is anything that is this nice.

Jpyros,

I am in Salina Kansas SB back in the Seattle area by Monday night. I will gather all the remaining Joker stuff up and ship by mid week.
