Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Rap. 30 - Construction - Fuel Tank

I'm putting together a Raptor 30 and the FIRST construction step talks about assembly of the fuel tank.

The tank I received in the kit appears to have the inside fuel line, clunk, etc. already installed and it appears the stopper is already glued into place, in direct conflict with the assembly instructions.

Should I take this whole thing apart, ditch the stock fuel line, and re-assemble / re-goop the stopper? or should I just leave it as is?

Thanks

Yes. That line in the tank is no good. My stopper did not require goop. It was a good fit and did not leak.

replace the paper thin clunk tube with something more substantial. Aerotrend medium is preferred, but anything will do. That thin tube won't hold up for very long, because the exhaust gas dissolves it very quickly. Also, if you have one, you might want to use a larger clunk. The fitting is not glued in, so just pop it out. I use the wide slot on my ball link pliers to get under it and wiggle it out.

Like scott3 said take that clunk line out when i got mine the first time i ran the motor the clunk line fell off.Lucky i was refueling when i noticed it. Also make sure you cut down the screws that hold your boom supports or they can puncture your tank!! It is best that you replace all the fuel line that came with your kit!!

While you have the tank out why don't you assemble it with the new clunk line and then submerge it in your sink or something while blowing into the tank to see if there are any bubbles coming out. If there are I take the stopper assy apart and clean it with alchohol and then use some silicone sealer around all the joints and re assemble, use your finger to smooth out the excess silicone that oozes out and your tank won't leak and it will still come apart should/when you need to replace the clunk line again. I would test the tank again after the silicone treatment dries. I would also suggest that you take an exact knife and make sure there isn't any flashing from the molding of the tank around the opening where the rubber stopper fits in as this will increase the chances of a leak.

Goop?

Are you sure you got a new kit is the first thing that entered my mind?
I can't see TT using Goop on the fuel tank. Can anyone else?
If you put a little bit of spit on the rubber stopper thing it should slip on quite easily. And yes ditch the fuel lines and get some better quality silicon tubing 1/8" I.D. If you want to put "T's" in your plumbing I highly recommend you get some sort of device for pinching the fuel line closed at the carburator while refueling otherwise much sooner than later you'll hydrolock the piston and cause the fan nut to spin loose when you try to start the engine under the aforementioned condition. Its happened to most of us at the start at least once.

Also, while you are at it, sand the inside of the frames at the edges where they will touch the tank. They will eat into your tank and fuel lines during use. This is much easier to do during assembly than later on.

While you're at this stage in the game, also be aware that the Raptor manual neglects to tell you that all the ball links are attached with the Thunder Tiger logo facing outwards.

Oh yeah! Where were you when I was putting my kit together?!?!?!

Fortunately, only had about 4 flipped and the guys at the local field were kind enough to point this out.
