Anyone ever thought of making a gasser into an electric ship? Just wondering if it would be possible to do and if it would be worth it.

A gasser to Electric conversion would take a HUGE electric motor and over 25 cells. Like the Joker. My vote would be for a 46 to electric. I know there was some thought a while ago. Chris, or Malorie, any new thoughts?

Ya

I was kinda thinking that. You would probably add weight overall with the big motor and batterys. Probably not worth it

No new thoughts here, just trying to catch up with all the current projects. I may be working with another pilot on it sometime in the near future though.

I've contemplated this very project. I too would probably use a 46; however, the 60 would probably have better disk-loading. While not going forward myself, it would be awsome to see done. I believe it's possible, just cost prohibitive.

I think the 3D weighs in a bit less then the stacked frame. Not a whole bunch but a bit.

The thing about E-helis is that the vibrations are so much less that they can be lightened up a ton.

Headspeeds are purely driven by the choice in motor and gear ratios. The Idea is to get the most efficient RPM out of the motor at the most efficient headspeed.

I converted an Intrepid 60 in late 2002, using 28 cells.

It was heavy but flew nicely. Performance similar to a hot 30, but of course short flight times due to the battery technology.

The high-end hackers can pull it off even better now with greater effeciency, especially the newer XL models.

Electric conversion is really pretty simple; albeit expensive. The problems now, beyond the price of Lipo's, is delivering the amperage consistently.

During very aggressive 3D, I would have to throw in an auto or two during the flight to allow things, particularly the ESC, to cool down, or risk smoking it!
