| Hello everyone,
I'm a complete beginner just finishing up building my raptor 30. I'm in the process of setting up the servos and linkages. I have followed the instructions on raptortechnique for the basic radio setup. Now I have problems setting up the pitch of the main blades.... Well, I don't know if I'm having a problem, but something just doesn't seem right. So here it is. I have a futaba 9 CHP with 9001 servos. On the collective servo I have the link at 90 degrees to the wheel and the built in pitch gauges reads at the 6 degree hover mark when the collective it set at half way. So far so good. Now, when setting the blade pitch (using a helimax picth gauge) to six degrees I'm having a difficult time because the "play" or "give" in the collective mechanism allows me to move the blade pitch plus or minus 3 or 4 degrees (with some resistance but not much) ..... is this ok.? if so how do you accuratelly set the pitch? or is it not that critical? The other question that I have is about using the pitch gauge. If I level and clamp the fly bar from moving ( I put a little bubble level on the fly bar then clamp it in that position), I then glued a small bubble level on the helimax picth gauge, then I hold the pitch gauge level and take a reading. (I didn't like the idea of eyeballing the top of the pitch gauge to the level fly bar. Does this sound ok?? am I doing it correct?
Next concern.. After setting the blade picth to about 6 degrees, as accuratley as possible, I then moved the collective stick up and down......... MAN, The blades move almost 30 - 40 Degrees +/-!!! Does this sound correct! OK, I know I can restrict this movement by setting my pitch curve percentages in the radio, but when I do this I really restrict it to obtain 0-6-9 pitch setup. I mean the percentages on the radio only range from about 45% to 65%. Once this is done... and I move my collective stick things seem to be working correctly. But as a sanity check, 0 - 5 - 9 ...... it doesn't seem like the blades move very much (pitch) looking at them ...... Again, does this sound correct?
However, if I give a full right or left aileron stick.... the blades will pitch over to 30 - 40 degrees (ok, maybee no that much .... but ALOT!!!).
Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to get my point across as clear as possible.
So, Am I on the right track??/
Thanks a million!
