e-JR Voyager E > C40-8L flight time

hello guys,
i've just mounted a brand new C40-8L motor in my VE with 40-3P opto
regler and 16T pinion with 10 cell 3300nimh flight pack gives me
just a little more than 7 minutes of hovering time, also the motor
seems to be hot, the regler is not.
is this a normal flight time?
the first 5 minutes is with great power but then it's losing his
power fast.
is it normal that the motor gets hot?
should there be a better setup to try? maybe with less cells or
another motor pinion that gives good power and longer flight times?
wich setup do you guys fly and how is it going?

thanks,
gio

Those flight times do seem a bit low. Are the packs new...if so they may take a few cycles to reach their max potential. As for the heat, I fly a C40-8L with a 17t pinion on Li-PO (3s4p) for 15-20 minutes at a time with no serious heat issues.

A couple of things come to mind that might have an effect...make sure that you have everything running at it's proper tension. If you over-tighten the T/R drive belt you can create a lot of drag (a little loose is better than a little tight), which in turn will reduce the flight time and add heat at the motor. I also use a lube (TriFlo) on the mainshaft and T/R shaft to keep them nice and free. Another area to check would be the throttle curves. If you are using a low value (less than about 80%) at hover you're not keeping the motor in it's optimal power range. End result....low flight times and higher temps. I use the 8L with the 40-3p (BEC version) and fly in the GOV mode at 90% on all points in Idle-Up 1 and 2. For normal I use 0/15/90/90/100, and I use that mode only to spool up or shut down.

Hope that helps!!
