Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > 1800 mah charge rate?

I just bought a 1800mah 4.8v battery from Heli World, and it does not look like I am getting sufficient charge on it (or maybe it is a bad battery). When I discharge it on my accu cycle at a rate of 250, I only get 1450mah out of it. I have cycled it 5 times now, and the reading are close to the same each time. I am charging it with the accu cycle at a rate of 125mah for 15 hours. I also tried another charger that I have, it is an Ace charger, and it charges at a rate of 120mah, and I charged it for 16 hours. With both chargers I only get 1450mah discharge out of the battery. The accu cycle goes down to 1.5v per cell. Would you say this is a bad battery, or am I not getting enough charge into it. Thanks for your input! At the end of the charge cycle, I am also peaking the battery. The peak charger only charges for about 2 minutes, then goes to a trickle charge. So I figured the battery is full of capacity. What do you think?

The battery is ni-cad. I am using the Dynamite mega peak charger to peak. That is interesting that some shut off at 80%. If this one does, that would explain the low 1450mah discharge I am getting. Do I need to go to a charger that will charge at 180mah?

I think your short charging it. Put it about 120mA or whatever for 24 hours (discharge first) and see what you get out of it. Make sure the charge is a timed charge, not a peak charge.

Battieries have something like a 20-30% loss
factor during charge so you have to make up for that.

125mA for 15 hours is not going to charge a fully disharged 1800mAH pack. That will leave you short by about 30%. You need 180mA for 14-16 hours.

But, not is all lost. To use the Accu-Cycle (standard model) and its 125mA setting, you will need to push the charge button twice. On the second charge cycle you can remove the pack after about 4-5 hours. If you forget to remove it then do not worry -- at your C/14 rate no harm will occur.

Thats what I was going to say also as I have an ACE Digapace and I have to do just that in order to keep charging otherwise it sets to trickle after 16hrs. Luckly its hi output is 140ma a little higher and quicker. Good answer and it works as long as you are around to reset.

Yey another option...............

Futaba now has an inexpensive wall wart charger for the 9ZWCII that puts out 150mA on the receiver side. You do need to assume about an 80% or so charge efficiency at C/10 rate. Calculating raw mA's into the battery by simple figuring charge output and time will yield an undercharged battery, at least in the rigid context of attempting to determine exact capacity of a pack.

I see them Dr. Ben.

Tower has them for $24.99

I think that is the way I will go. I have a TME adjustable time charger that will go 3,5,7,9,12 or 16 hrs. That futaba 150mah charger on a 16hr charge would really get me in the ball park woulden't it. I like the idea of push one botton and forget about it.

Hey everybody in this string, thank you!!! This has really helped me out alot. Now I feel confident that I can get the proper charge on my battery packs.

I slow charged that 1800mah pack for a total of 19 hrs at 120mah. I will dischagre it and see what I get.

Well I am starting to think I have an inaccurate display reading on my accu-cycle. I chagred the 1800mah pack for a total of 21 hrs at 120mah. The accu-cycle discharge display still said 1457mah at a discharge rate of 250mah.
