| 6BThe problem you described with the 6B carb is not typical but the 6B is problematic on the 61SFN. It runs very lean in the midrange and when you open the low end up enough to richen the midrange, it's too rich to idle. If you open the high end up, it is too rich at full throttle to make any power. Most of the guys switched from the 6B to a Super Tigre 61 carb to solve the problem, a straight drop in so no mods were required.
As to your problem, if it's not drawing fuel at idle, either the carb barrel is completely closed, the spray bar is plugged up or you have a massive air leak somewhere. I assume you have checked the lines inside and outside the tank for holes so make sure the fuel inlet fitting is screwed all the way in and put a piece of fuel tubing over the main needle valve to seal it. turn the motor over with your finger over the air inlet (remove the fan shroud first and get someone to hold the head while you do this) and see if it draws fuel, if so start and keep going, if not the is an obstruction in the system somewhere.
On a dog sled team, if you're not the lead dog, the view never changes. |
