Before I try to do this on my own... I was wondering if anybody had suggestions / pictures for how to mount a gy401 to the tail boom?

Thanks,

Have a look on Ezone - there's been loads of pictures. Most people make a little "table" out the back above the tail rotor servo. On Ezone you'll find plenty of pictures (search for "GY240 mounting" rather than "GY401 mounting" - their physically similar but the 240 is more widely used)

Here's a picture of my crutch. Notice the small table behind the main mast mount.

I replaced my crutch with the new metal one. On the metal one, I have the gryo secured to the frame, up front, see

Don't mount the gyro physically to the boom. If you get a boom strike, all the shock is transmitted right to the gyro. On the crutch is better, even in front of the boom.
