Main Discussion > Futaba PA-2 system for hovering?

I found that the PA-2 system is used in planes to stabilize them - adjust the elevator and aileron to make it fly level. Will this work with helicopters? I just thought this might be a faster way to learn hovering if some people want to do it for real, not on the sim.

Here is the link:

It says not recommended for helicopters. I wonder why! If anyone knows why please tell me. I think this would be fun to mess around with.

PA-2 scans for light variations between the ground and the sky. It basically looks for the horizon. Thus it will not work at low heights. I don't know if there are any other reasons apart from that.

FMA co-pilot is said to be much better and I have already ordered one. waiting for it to arrive. I think FMA works in a similar manner to PA-2 but looks for infrared radiation rather than daylight. Thus it will probably also need an open field to work.

I know a person who tried the FMA Copilot. It worked well for him, giving him confidence to learn nose-in and generally get good at hovering. He's sold it on now, having done its job.

It definitely works at the alititudes used when learning to hover.

Hello,

My dear Angelo don't spend so much money in expensive systems. If you wish to hover, by a sim, practice a lot and then you can try PA-2.

I wish you the best. Good Luck!!!
