Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > Should I go PCM ?

Hi!

I have a Futaba 8UHFS and I'm about to get my first 60/90 heli. Up until now i've been running with an FM receiver and I have 2 questions:

a) Is PCM highly recommended ? ... is switching to PCM worth the extra buck (I have a spare 8ch FM receiver right now)

b) Can I just buy a PCM receiver and use it with my radio ?

Yes your radio will do both FM and PCM. I have heard all the arguments about PCM "hiding" glitches, but from personal experience I saved my Concept SRII because the PCM system was set up to go to idle, when it happened (recever problem) the system came back up and I landed without any other problems and IF I had "lost" it it would have been at idle when it hit, doing much less damage to it's self and to any other persons or things that might have been in the "way".

PCM is more resistant to interference than FM/PPM.

Isn't the 8UHFS FM only? As I've the 8UHP which is PCM. The S = Super is just updated software, this series is now made obsolete by the 9CHP.

Info only, but the 8U series of radios (8UAF, 8UHF, 8UAP, 8UHP, 8UAF-S, 8UHF-S, 8UAP-S, 8UHP-S) all transmit in BOTH standard FM (PPM) and PCM 1024.

And, just because there is a new radio out, the 9C, does not mean the 8U series of radio is bad. In fact, now the 8U is even a better deal now since you can find them used very cheap. -Steve

Ta. What do the 'F' & 'P' denominations mean?

I meant that I think the 8U will be no longer made with the 9C out now.
