Actually methanol is hygroscopic… meaning that it mixes very well with water. It mixes with water so well, in fact, that the alcohol has the ability to literally suck moisture from the air. Hence, it is recommended that all fuel remain closed or sealed in its container.

When the salt enters the picture, it tends to act like a catalyst for the oxidation reaction of the metal in your engine.

Now, we’ll see black tongues of people tasting dye for saltiness.

Yeah, they mix pretty well. I'm just guessing, but I think what he meant was that you don't want your water and methanol to mix. Back in the 8th grade we separated them by distilling. We Mississippi folks learn that kind of stuff early on. If you are really good, you can separate a methanol/ethanol mixture into just ethanol. It takes a slow flame though, since their boiling points are so close together. And, because if you screw up and drink methanol you might end up blind or something, and then you'll have to buy two more gyro/servo combos (and a GPS, and an onboard computer to sync them all) in order to fly your helicopter.
