As we all know, setting up the pitch and atv's for aileron and elevator gets interesting when we are at the pitch extremes. In other words .. how many times have you had to tone down aileron and elevator at full + or - pitch because of binding?

I've been going through the manual to my radio, Futaba 9Z WCII, and something caught my attention. It's discussing using the mix type CTL. The example they state is related to a sailplane. They say that you could say set up a mixer that would give you more rudder throw based on how much camber you're currently using. (This I assume would be controlled by the throttle stick).

What I'd like to do is this. I'd like to create a mixer that as my pitch gets closer to +10 or - 10, it would automatically give me less alieron and elevator throw. But, when pitch was at say 0, (mid stick), I'd have full deflections.

Any thoughts?

I used a similar set-up by toggling a D/R to the position of the throttle/collective stick. Honestly, it was far better for me to just learn collective management, making it second nature to avoid large collective inputs tied with large cyclic deflections. I suspect you'll end up a better pilot doing it this way.

If you listen to Curtis, Todd, et al when they fly, you rarely hear blade slapping or engines dogging. The reason for this is that these guys are balancing the collective and cyclic inputs.

99% of the time, I don't have to worry .. I think for me, it's more of an insurance policy than anything else. I'd just like to not have to worry incase I accidentaly goof up ..

No one has any thoughts on how to do this?

Does the 9z have p-mixes with points? Like a 5 point pitch curve? If so, it should be easy. Collective is master, 100 percent travel everywhere except each end, adj. down as needed.

To do the CTL mix, you would mix each cyclic with itself, with the mixing rate controlled by the collective stick position..

The CTL mix curve sets the mix rate according to the position of a
designated control.

So, you use the collective stick as the designated control.
Then the CTL curve in the pmix screens will set the mix rate according to the collective pitch position. Set the curve to 0 in the middle, then some -ve amount at the ends, so the cyclics mix with themselves, reducing the throw. You should end up with an inverted 'V' or 'U' shaped curve.

Ben's ideal of triggering dual rate based on collective may be a bit easier, though I don't know how to make it work at both ends of the collective stick throw.

Phil is correct. As I now recall, I did it at one end of the collective only to clear out a little mechanical bumping with extreme low pitch. Go with the pmix method if you want to reduce the travel on both sides.

Nice explanation, Phil.

Okay .. Here's what I tried:

Slave: Aileron
Master: Aileron
Control Channel: Pitch
Type: CTL

On the curve, I've set it all over the place. To test, I went full left or right aileron, and then moved the pitch up and down. No matter what I set the curve to, the total aileron throw wouldn't change. I'd also like to add the fact that this is a CCPM machine (Fury). Should I apply linking? If so, to the slave, or the master?
