That's one of the reason I got into scale. It seems that scale people are more mature, and have much higher class compares to those Pod&Boom guys. Ooops Hope those people don't come to this area

I look at this way

There are a lot of people who ride Harleys (Scale Heli's) because they are what they are.

and

There are more who ride rice grinders (pod and boom heli's) because they perform.

Can't fly?

Is that so Todd? Just because I do scale does not mean I can't 3d all day long whenever I want to. What a narrow-minded, ignorant, shortsided thing to say!

And as a second point, I have more in ONE of my scalers then you would have in 3 furys, not to mention months of building time. I would bet you would be shaking like a school girl if you have 15 months and 6500 dollars in a machine when you flew it for the first time.

Ease off of the scale guys, they might just out fly ya!

best of both worlds.

overall scale machines will last much longer, and don't get abused like the pods, we are not buying them for 3d flying. but more for presentation. the heads and paddles are alittle softer and heavier . these machines are graceful with oodles of display features. investing months of at a time to get it just right.

all in all it's still r/c heli's. it's a step up from the usual routine. what would fun flys be without scale flyers ?.

take a look at the some of the top flyers on the faif3c scene around the world. originally used sport scale for their fai schedules. then take a look at the top gun guys . world class builders of quality heli's and flyers who make it look simple ..

Scale pilots are simply "copy cats". I know cause im one! As for more class? What have you been smoking? Money alone dosent make class and a $3-$6,000 scaler means simply someone has the change and drive to do it nothing else, class has absolutly nothing to do with it silly boy!

Dave
I agree with you. I saw your 3D flying.
I too flew myself 3D (We called it switchless then), But after that I started building scales. I really enjoy building and looking at it. Especially when it flies nice in slow fly-by, you're really can enjoy looking at it.
I think when you're getting older you're getting more patient, wiser....etc

heliman41
I absolutely agree with you. Money don't have anything to do with class. You can find them a lot here in the states.
Silly me. Hmmmm this local weeds that I've been smoking...
For me. Someone's behavior, manner have a lot of thing to do with class.

Class and No Class

It's been said here and elsewhere. Class is not for sale. Money has nothing to do with it. Class is an intangible... but you know it when you see it....

Scale stuff is great. Scale helis fly the way helis are supposed to fly. When real helis fly inverted figure eights, maybe I'll get interested in
"3-D". Until then, I'll do them with the simulator... after all, the stunts are just video game extensions anyway....

Helmet firmly in place....

Scale is sweet..

I have a sport scale Hughes 500 and I absolutely love it. It's almost a different world than pod and boom. I always bring both to the field and I can tell you I have much more pucker factor flying that big expensive scale ship than my pod and boom no matter what I'm doing.

I love the big slow scale flight, smoothness and finess in flight really makes a scale heli look even better. Nothing compares with a nice slow flyby with your SCALE HELI.

I have my Raptor 46 for sport and 3D flying and I enjoy flying and flipping ti around, that's what it's made to do.

Forget class, heli pilots are a diverse lot to begin with and I would guess most scale pilots have a lot more stick time than most pod and boomers and are likely to be better pilots.

Scale Heli.

Nice pic Raymond.. I can't wait to get mine Airwolf done.. Whoever gets the idea of 'shaking like a schoolgirl" I think scale heli pilots has more experience , in flying and building. takes dedications and money certainly helps, cuz it's quite expensive to complete one than the pod and boom.

You know this is a hard nut to take.
I have been building scales for years and years, and I have loved eveyone of them.
Sure I can build a P&B in one night, and have it flying the next day, But
i live for a little more challenge then that. Take a blank fiberglass body and to turn it into a copy of a real copter, that if you stand back a few feet, and you can't tell the difference between a real and a model,, now that is a challenge.

Then take this same machine and fly it as close to the way as the real one flys. And this is a kick ! Sure maybe a scale will never fly as fast or as high as a P&B, but that is not because it wouldn't do it. It is because I don't want to fly it that way !!

I don't think I have any more class then anyother Heli flyer, I respect the 3d flyers and the week-end flyers, they are doing what THEY want to do, and fly the way they want to fly. If anyone wants to build a scale then I am 100% behind them, so they too can know the joys of flying scales
and building them.

Which ever road you take, just enjoy the thrills of Helicopters.

I bought my first scale heli from The_Dave and now I'm about to turn my Pod and Boom Ergo 60 into an S300. Well that's sort of a pod and boom but it's a scale pod and boom. I fly my planks sotra scale. I like it! Can't fly ... indeed!

SCALE GUYS ARE THE EPITOMY OF PATIENCE

I have always had the utmost respect for the scale master or the person considered to be a master builder. The first person to get me into forward flight and is now a 15+ year scale pilot and I can still remember him allowing me to hover the most expensive P&B heli of that time period, his beautiful Hirobo Eagle STII! I couldn't believe my eyes or my heart pounding like mad. I couldn't believe that he trusted me with that machine!

Well to make a long story short, there have been many such hurdles crossed since then and these older more experienced gentlemen who have reached the pinacle of this most exclusive hobby are jewels to be coveted. I regularly question whether or not I have what it takes in terms of restraint, control and maturity to face the myriads of complex demons associated with truely scale crafted r/c helicoptors. I would love to get out my charge card and just flop it down on a brand new turbine graupner heim UH-1B! But the challenge is tri-fold, financial, powerplant, scale. Hell of a triple challenge for a 5-year pilot no matter how cocky he or she is!

I live for the day when I no longer have to question my maturity and I raise both hands in awe of the guys who have that magic combination of money, experience, mechanical aptitude, maturity and steadfast lifelong interest in this hobby. But right now, even though I'm training others, I don't believe I've reached that point quite. I honestly believe that r/c helicopter piloting is the gentlemen's sport/hobby of this century. We should all applaud ourselves for even being involved and seek to enjoy it for as long as we are physically capable. Scale guys need not explain nor justify their existence, their method, nor their craft. We should all be so lucky to be just like them someday! Hear! Hear! Cheers! To helis, to life! For as long as we can hold the sticks and crack one eye open skyward!
