| Entirely possible. 7ahr-12v gel cell batteries should never, ever be charged higher than 14.5v rms. Once charged disconnect immediately. If you want to charge it up and leave it connected to the charger do not exceed 13.8v. If your using some sort of lead acid battery charger, you probably f'ed it. A gel cel battery is a battery containing sulfiric acid with a gel additive. I should be stored in its normal upright position. Storing on its end or side will cause sulfication to occur on the surface of the exposed plates (internally of course) & therefore greatly reduce its service life. If your charger is putting out to high of a voltage a cheap fix is to put a diode or two or three in series. A standard 1N4001, 1N4002, 1N4003 (these are rated for 1A) will drop the voltage by .5v. As will 1N5400, 1N5401, 1N5402 ect. (3A) the difference between these diodes your probably wondering? The higher the last digit, the higher the PIV rating. Now what the heck is PIV your wondering? Peak Inverse Voltage.
