I'm checking out a Z shuttle for a friend and I found the head to be very sloppy. I wanted to get the ball bearings for the head and went to the net check prices and I was surprised at how much he needs to spend.[break]

Here's the list:
Code

Code Product Qty Price Total
2500086 2500086-BEARING 3 X 7 X 3 (2) 1 $15.13 $15.13
2500057 2500057-BEARING 3 X 6 X 2.5F (2) 5 $17.80 $89.00
Total: $104.13

I also found the same at Boca bearings. Here's the price:
Code

ID x Part Description Price Qty Total
OD x Number
Width

3x6x2.5 MF63-ZZB (36) Flanged Sale!! $4.50 10 $45.00
3x7x3 MR73-ZZB (36) Sale!! $4.50 2 $9.00
TOTAL: $54.00

I also tried McMaster but their prices are higher. Do you guys know any other place where I can get them cheaper?

Thanks.

Unfortunately you get what you pay for. I don't know how bearings are rated. Boca did not enlighten me when I asked. Many manufacturers have found that in order to be competitive they had to use inexpensive bearings (read as "lower quality"); other manufacturers increased the number of bearings so that it would appear that their helis were of a higher quality compared to the competition, but they used lower quality bearings.

A LHS sells bearings at less than $2 a piece; their quality is highly suspect. He sells Japanese bearings to me for $4. Bottom line: get to know your local dealer

I went down to the local bearing house with an NSK 6901S bearing for the rear bearing in an Enya 35. This is a stainless japanese bearing. They did not have an unsealed version, but had a sealed bearing of the same type for about $9.00. The unsealed bearing was about 5$. I just popped the seals out, and stuck in it. Boca has this bearing listed for 18.95. They don't offer a comparable bearing for less than $10.80 for a plain chromed bearing.

"12x24x6 SMR6901-2RS (65) Stainless Rubber Sealed $18.95"

I think Boca has developed their business by putting togethor specific packages of bearings, and marketing them to people who don't have the time, knowledge, or tools to go to a bearing house and buy something comparable. Some of Boca's might be of higher quality (possibly their ceramics), but most of them appear to be the same thing as what is commercially available. While you do get what you pay for, paying too much is your option.

Thanks, John Cadwell
