e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > Triton Charge Questions for 1800Ma NIMH

Hi; I know this has been asked often & I did do a search to no avail could someone please help with some or all of these questions?? I have 3 new 1800 ma NIMH 4.8v Rx packs that I don't want to screw up. & would like to use the Triton on manual & store the settings for this bat.

1 What to adjust the peak sensitivity to? (from 5mv to 20 mv)

2 Discharge cutoff is 4.4v but what is the rate to be used?

3 What do I set the peak delay at start to? (recomended is 3 to 5 min)

4 Should the max charge input be set to 1800Ma for these batteries?

Any other tips links or good user info would be much appreciated, I've almost saved enough to buy this guy & am doing a bit of research before I get it. I've printed the online manual that's what raised these questions! I know I'm going to love this charger!

With NiMh's you don't want the charger to over peak so you should adjust the Peak Sensitivity to 5mv, meaning it will be more sensitive to voltage drop.

For discharging, I would set it a 300 to 500 mah's.

A 3 minute Peak Delay should be fine, I have not had an issue with False Peaking with NiMh's.

And for a charge rate I would just use a C/10 unless your in a hurry. 180 mah would be the setting I would choose, as a fast chage rate I would look at 850 to 1000 mah.

I have a Triton but never use the store feature. When I start the charger and turn the battery type to NiMh the settings are there for my pack packs anyway from the last time I used it. The store feature is nice if you have several packs of different capacity.

I hope this help you out.

the lower the delta peak voltage, the higher the sensitivity.
So, 3mv is more sensitive than 5mv.

3mv is more likely to false trip, but also less likely to overcharge.

Triton Arrived!!!!!

I just got my Triton in the mail ! It's awsome & works great! I'm a little confused about the settings recomended here where it's said that a fast charge should be 850 to 1000Ma ?? I was studying the recomended Charge/Discharge chart which says a standard charge is 1C (1.8A) and a fast charge is a whopping 2C (3.6A) That's a whole lot different !! I understand (limited) the extension of battery life with a more conservative charge , does it have to be THAT conservative? What are your (anybodies) experiences with this?

Cycle them 3 times at least before putting them into service. Charge at 180-200ma those first 3 times and discharge around 500ma. After that if your not in a hurry you can charge them at 1000ma and discharge somewheres about the same. If your in a hurry you can charge them at 1/C which would be 1800ma safely. The peak sensitivity at factory default of 5mv seems to work quite well. WARNING. WARNING. The On/Off switch on your heli might not hold up to long if your charging through the switch at 1800ma. That's why many of us after learning thru the school of hard knocks have added a second wire harness of our battery packs with Dean's connectors to facilitate connecting to our quick chargers.

I lost my infamous tag line.
