Hi All
I'm thinking of going to a 5 cell pack with the voltage regulator on my R50. The standard setup would be to put the voltage regulator right after the battery. I was wondering if anyone had ran full 5 cell voltage to the RX and put the voltage regulator inline just to the gyro. It seems like you could run the signal lines for ch 4 & 5 directly to the gyro and then plug the regulator into one of those spots to feed volts to the gyro and its servo.
The gain of this setup would be faster servos on all but the gyro - has anyone done this already & did it work????

Thanks - Terry

That sounds like a great idea, does anyone know if that would work? Or is there any other disadvantages of running 6v?

If my wife finds out how much these things cost, she's gonna kill me!!!

6V on just digital rudder servo

I'm using two 6V batteries, with a battery backer, which cuts the voltage by .9V to everything, including the 601 gyro. I'm using a 5.1V regulator on just the digital servo to the tail. Radio South custom made a regulator that plugs in between the gyro and the servo. The gyro can handle the higher voltage, but according to futaba, the servo cannot. Seems to work real well.

6V max on the gyro

Hi - sounds like the regulator just to the servo works good for you. I'm a bit scared to try a 5 cell pack straight to the gyro though. A 4 cell pack is somewhere close to 6V right off a fresh charge & a 5 cell pack can be in the higher 7 volt range. The specs for the GY 502 lists 6V as max. As a separate question, does a common regulator have the signal wire pass straight through, or is it just the two wire leads on it?

Thanks - Terry

Rappyman,

You might get more input if you post in the other forum for nitro helis labeled as Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt. This forum was intended for electric powered helis!

Just toss the 5 cell and get some lithium polys with the regulator. Been using this setup with my raptor, xcell and giant scale planes. You get much longer flight times with a significant weight reduction.
