Hello Guys:

We've been thinking about making a 30 size fuses that are not offered... Such as the Apache, Dauphin, and Cobra, etc...

Where can I get get some manuals so I can see the mechanics of the kicked up tail. Are they wire drive, belt drive, etc?

If we do make some of these fuses is anyone interested?

Thanks in advance.

Hi cerberus,

I just want to see the tail drive setup in some of these heli’s with the "Kicked up" tail. I will need to study the mechanics of it and see what is feasible for the majority of all the heli's in the 30-size class.

Scanned images or web sites with online manuals would be great.

There isnt really anything cool out there for the 30-size class ,,,, YET!

40 * GearBox for these tails

Look at the Vario site -- www.variousa.com -- they have a manual section were they show these tail drives in a blow-up view. Hope this help -- !

Hirobo UH-1 T/R Drive

How about using a Hirobo .30 size UH-1 tail rotor drive unit with its angled gearbox. -Steve

You would be eliminating the shuttle and raptor for these upswept tail designs because of the belt drive. The shuttle scale mechanics would be ok since they are wire drive, you could adapt something relatively inexpensive. Trying to get a belt up to the t/r would be complicated for the raptor or belt drive shuttles.

Wouldn't the belt drive be easier to get up to the top? All you need are two small rollers on the bottom of the Vert fin to deflect the belt the required degrees upward. The belt would be longer than stock but the hardware is available now. Two raptor 30 red pulleys with two bearings each in the back and a R50/vigor/freya belt to reach the tailgearbox. We're not talking Superscale here so a few compromises with the fin thickness and size could be made. Also the front belt / pulley lineup doesn't have to be perfect as long as the belt doesn't touch the fuse or boom.

Belt systems,, Why exclude them?

Fritz,

You are thinking in the same direction as I am with the belt drive systems. Belts and pullys can be had from Berg.

These are not going to be museum scale here, to much of a pain in the but and to much money for a 30 sized heli. But we still will stay pretty darn close on the ones we can.

I think you will have a problem with the belt system. I believe it may be very difficult to locate the belt rollers inside the tail area you are talking about. There is not alot of room inside the tail plane area where the rollers would have to be located. I would think you would need tensioners of some sort figured into this system also. Look at a Huey fuse in the area we are talking about and think about it. I have installed plenty of 40 degree gearboxes with carbon and wire drives, and that alignment can be a pain and time consuming.
