I just burned out my Graupner Super starter , it is very difficult / hard to start this OS 90 Engine in cold weather.

What kind of starter would be recommended for 90 engines

Any good advice

Get a Dynatron on 24 volts. Something will turn with this setup.

Fellows here seem to like the Dynatron. I have an OS91 as well, and after I burned out my starter I went ahead and bought a Dynatron 12/24V. What I experienced was, that Dynatron did not give any more torque (at 12V) than the cheaper one. What a dissapointment!
So if your motor does not spin, do not break your starter just because you are frustrated (as I did) !

... and what you need is
1. power source that deliveres enough amps
(I use a gell cell 12V/12Ah)
2. check there is no oil/fuel in the engine
(after the day I leave the piston to the upmost position to prevent oil leaking back to the engine from the muffler)
3. be patient for 50-80 flights... the situation will improve!

Do you use the rubber cone in your starter? I had better results using a solidly fixed starter shaft (so no rubber cone).

I just burned out my starter too...

I took it this morning to an place that rewinds motors. I told the guy to rewind it so that it puts out more torque. Wish me luck.

The Dynatron is designed for 24 volt operation. Most people burn out the Dynatron by loading it down and only using 12 volts. If you use 24 volts you will not hurt the Dynatron starter and it will (as others said) turn something, so be CAREFULL. I use the gel cell 7ah batteries in a small tool box so I have a portable starter settup. And when my starter for my car goes out I know I could use the dynatron )

Using 15 high quality Sanyo Nicad cells will give you 18 volts. That'll give the Dynatron plenty of power to start the 91 but not enough to break engines.
