What is that corrosion that forms on old alkaline batteries. You know like when you leave batteries in something for like 3 years and then you open it and they seemed to have leaked, is that just container corrosion or actual spilled electrolyte. Are the little flakes dangerous, will they dissolve cloth?

It is acid leaching out along with other chemicals. It is not safe for human consumption or the enviroment. Definitely will cause cancer after prolonged exposure to those living in California and other parts of the planet for that matter. Need more be said.
