How do you calculate the time one of the ac/dc wall chargers should be left on a battery. They tell you the max amp output, but I assume thats short circuit current. I bought a TME trickle charger that has a 16 hour timer. What if I charge battery with a 12 hour charger for 16 hours?

If you charge NICD with 1/10 capacity then if you charge it longer nothing special happen. This is partly due to the fact that not all energy charged to NICD is stored and bateries are made to handle slight overcharge in 1/10 mode so 16 hours is OK. Extra current when battery is fully charged is converted to heat so they may get slightly warm. Do not try that with higher charge rates than 1/10!!!
Direct answer is you can charge your 12 hours batteries (I guess this is recommended time on a battery) for 16 hours.

I mean

I can figure it out when I know the current going in, I know what fraction of C you should charge at for different batteries. Im just asking, are you to assume that the maximum current output of the transformer charger is what current is basically always put out to the battery.

Then try to connect multimeter between trafo charger and batteries so you can see the current going to batteries. With simple trafo charger you don't need to worry so much about charging impluses/frequency so the number should be very close to reality. Then the calculation is very simple.
