It really dos'nt make a difference how many blades I have since the reading is taken off the main shaft by way of a magnet .I'am using a VDO Cytec 10 bike Computer if that helps someone who might have a Idea as too my problem. Thanks , Jerry

How to do it

You must do 2 thing

1- set wheel size to 1667

2-make speed read in KPH not MPH.

that's all...the rpms will be the speed in KPH. the actual RPM will be missing one decimal place just add a zero. The Max KPH speed which in the rotor rpm will be exact. I have the VDO C08 cytec computer on mine.

It works !!! Just set it up like post above. I just milled out a slot on the bottom of main gear on my gasser for magnet and reballanced gear.
Wow 1900 rpm's and now i know why it flies like its on rails.

how many magnets are you using? Half of your number is 1867...

Maybe you are on the "total distance traveled" screen. I used a SigmaSport and haven't had a bit of problems with it. If you are using 1667 wheel dia and KPH then it should read right. Check the directions for distance from magnet to pickup and make sure you are within that range.

There was also a place on the net that compiled all the posts and pics in one spot, but I can't remember where it was.

Could be a couple of things..

1) If you are using a bolt through the main shaft, then the sensor could be reading both ends of the the bolt, because the magnet has magnetized the bolt. I think this would you give you a double reading (exactly twice the headspeed).

2) The sensor is EXTREMELY sensitive to vibration. Sometimes I would get REALLY high readings, because at certain vibrations, the sensor would turn on and off VERY quickly.

Best of luck

I think you might have something there . I'am using the main shaft bolt so how do I get it to read only one side? What if I change the wheel size to 8335 thats half of the 1667 i have now. Any Idea's? Thanks , Jerry

Try moving the sensor a little further away.

To be honest, the only way these things are reliable is if you check them every now and then against a real tach.

Check to see if the bike computer wants your wheel circumference or wheel diameter. If it wants your diameter, that may be the problem since 1667 is circumference. Divide your reading by 3.14 (pi) and that would be around 1180rpm, quite slow but a more reasonable number.

I like the bike computer idea. I have many questions.1 is the max speed program used for this measurement? Is the computer mounted to the tail boom with the handelbar mount? Can I use the cadence pickup on the tail rotor ? And should I increase my Heart Rate Monitors max heart rate alarm while doing scarey new 3-D stuff.
