I'm trying to be proactive. I finally learned to hover my Hummingbird for more than 5 seconds for the first time today after owning it for over a month. I got 3 cycles out of the battery. I did notice though that when I was hovering, there were times I could see sparks through a hole in the top. Is this alright? I know how the brush system works, but are they supposed to be sparking?

Also, when I finish my flight on the stock battery and pinion, it is HOT to the touch. (I have the century heatsink)

Is this because of the
A: pinion size
B 8.4 battery on 6V battery
C Normal but new to me due to newly acquired skills

Thanks in advance for your help.

Congratulations on getting there with the Hover. I use a similar motor to you, mine is the Protech Mega 300 6V. Until recently I thought this was identical to the Speed 300 6V but have been told that the wind is slightly different and it is more powerful. I have used these motors on both the 'birdseed' NiMh packs and 2 cell LiPo. From trial and error I found the Protech motor runs best on an 8t pinion, would think the Graupner motor would be the same as they are both very high speed units.

I do not use a heatsink on my motors but know I should and after a 15 minute hover and slow ff on a LiPo pack the motor is quite hot but they seem to survive.

Cannot say that I have noticed any sparking on the comms though. Did you run the motor in before you used it? I run mine for 10 minutes with no load on 3V, this beds the brushes in. I assume you have fitted the three capacitors to the motor as these are necessary?
