I got mine from a lawnmower repair store. They sold the kits for $10, but for $30, I just bought a whole new carb.

Call Chris Bergen (616) 445-2060. He'll sell you a new carb for about $25.

Hey Squirrel

Hello: Could you post, what blades and oil / ratio, head speed on your
intrepid gasser? Got one too! nice and no more glow fuel for me.
Much Thanks: Vapor

Carb stuff from Hanson

Bruce Hanson has Walbro 167a carbs, new for 19.95,and rebuild kits that include the kevlar re inforced check valve/gasket sets for less than 10 bucks, includes screens, pins etc......
Tip:If you decide to rebuild check the small screens in the carb, flushing them clean w ether is easier than replacing them.
Bruce is also a US Zenoah distributor takes major CC's via phone, and ships ASAP.....

MS FAI Pro 680 mm seem to be the best blades so far. The heavier the blade the better. Head speed between 1700 and 1980 seems to be about right for these blades. I was using 700mm V blades and they are just to long. Oil is Klotz R50 and the ratio is 5 oz per gallon of gas. I have been running white gas at the same ratio so far it is doing okay. That is nice because the gas odor is eliminated. A governor will make a tremendous improvement in the handling. 5 point curves are not adequate for these engines or any engine if you demand precision flying.

By the way, mine is a Bergen Intrepid.

squirrel>>> Thanks for the reply. Yes I to had a set of V/700's and just to slugish in the air. Currently running amsoil @ 75-1 with cmt 680's
188 grams. Flys great in the air, hovers like ( insert four letter word with "s" and "t" in it ). head speed at 1900. The Klotz R-50 even at 50-1 was causing carbon build up. I've ran 8 gallons of regular 87 octane
so far, so its not quite fully broke in yet. How about running 680 V blades ?
Much thanks: Vapor

Hey Vapor,

I too have a Bergen Intrepid. I love it!

Where do you get Amsoil? Is your engine running smoother? Same temp? My engine has been running about 235 degrees with the sensor on the top of the cylinder near the crankcase.

Note: I have the Hanson modified G23 with a Hanson pipe.

I use CP 14 mixed 32:1 and the plug is dark due to the oil and the exhaust residue is dark brown.

I'm running 700mm V-Blades with no problem for my flying style--not sure what my head speed is yet, but it seems to be happy.

What are your needle settings...mine are low 1 1/8 and high 1 3/8. Will this need to change with the different oil?

Thanks!

Tim.

Don't worry about the rough running until you have at least 11 or more gallons burned. Try a governor on it, you will be VERY happy with it. The Ozark Mountain (Wal-Mart camp fuel) has been doing very well so far. The engine had to be leaned out considerably before it would run good. I don't know if this is my imagination but the engine seems to have alot less vibration in the fuel tank. What are your needle valve settings ? Are you running a Bergen or Xcell?

gasser info update

Hello Again: Bergen gasser, what a smooth and responsive heli !!!!
Just tried Klotz KL-215 snowmobile oil at 5 oz per gallon, 87 octane
pump gas. Nice and smooth burning. Head speed down to 1800 rpm.
When running amsoil, the engine seemed to not have much torque and a lots of engine vibration causing 401 gyro to make some unexpected
piros at will. Blades are a set of century (woodies)700's x 65 modified by removing the radius at blade tip(cut off square) ,remove shrink covering, sand smooth, hard coating with gell type isocryo (two coats),
cover with thin sign vynal or blade covering (not the shrink stuff)
reballance and fly. Here's what you get, a shorter blade than a 680
with 5 more square inches per blade of area ( 10 more total )
than your standard 680's.Most 680's and 700's have a blade chord of around 60 mm. So you can get the lift and hover stability of a set of normal 700 (carbons/fiberglass) but the cyclic of a set of 680's.
all at a reasonable price. Do the bike computer head rpm set up, real
nice and cheap!!! The carb settings are 7/8 low and 1 on high.
I will make up a web page on the head tach next week
On the head temp question? need temp gage so all i can tell you is that
after landing the engine seems real cool as compared to a friends
gasser power planes. Thanks again to Squirrel for all your info too.
Hope this helps you out. <>
P.S. I also run a set of cmt 680 carbons and are going to try out a set of
carbon vortex 680's this weekend.

Darkstar,
too rich, fly it around upstairs, land, adjust, check it upstairs,if ok,land, then adjust the low needle.
faster/cheaper than a bike tach:
use a tach for r/c planes, turn it on,stick it in a bladeholder(the end that goes onto the boom)set it on the ground,hover/flip the idle up switch and watch your reading as you fly over it...

Speaking of Governers

There doesn't seem to be enough room on the fan (with the cooling shround and all) for the GV-1 magnet and sensor. The rear of the fan is blocked by the ignition magnets.

1) Can you use the ignition magnets somehow to trigger the GV-1

2) What about mounting the magnet in the clutch housing, which is far easier to get to from above, and mount the sensor down from the top

Any ideas?

- Thanks
