Well I flew just a test hop, but a successful hop nonetheless. Smooth as glass, seems like it will have plenty of power but my backyard is too limited to do any real flying. Can't wait to get it to the field and see what it can do.

More pics in my gallery.

Just wondering why you chose this motor? I've read the applications for it and it says it's used for the Logo 20 helicopter. I know your using the LiPo's with it and that must give you some massive head speed, but how long does the batteries last? I know if you were using regular 12 cell NiCd batteries you would be getting under 900 RPM's. BTW, nice looking Logo.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Thanks, Patrick!

This motor with 8s2p lipos reportedly gives headspeeds in the 1800's with flight times in the 15 to 20 min range, without excessive heating of the motor. I've emailed back and forth with a few folks who've been experimenting with this setup, who have had very good results. Check out this link for some more info:

http://www.rcglider.com/Power%20Systems.htm

I have yet to verify all that, but the purported advantage of the higher voltage 8s2p over the 4s4p that many have been using is less current draw, so less heating. However, with the higher voltage, a bit larger motor is required, hence the XL motor!

I'd be happy to provide an update once i have some experience and find out if it all works as advertised. I am certainly hoping so. I can say that in my back yard flights, there was plenty of headspeed at 85% governor mode, with plenty of juice in a short full power climbout.

More to follow.

Nice info on the 8s2p, that's something to concider on my next Logo 10.

Thanks....

I am in Montana for a week for some new year skiing, so no Logo flying for a little while. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and i can get in some flights in a couple of weeks, after i get back.

Have a happy new year all!

Tons of early season snow this year, great trip with lots of hard skiing.

I've been working this week and the weather has sucked, so no flying yet. I am hoping for some decent weather this weekend, and i am off to boot! I promise i'll let you know as soon as i get some flights in.

Hi rchaas,

I just built the same setup..I just ran it on the ground so far without blades for a shakedown run.... can't wait to fly this thing but the weather in chicago is crappy...I will post with my results as well when I get some flights in....it should have some massive power!

The only disappointing part is the spool up on governor mode with the 48-3p...seems way to abrupt. Does yours do that?

Yeah, the soft start isn't quite as soft as i'd like, and there isn't a low volts cutoff feature either.

Mine starts out with a bit of a jump, but then the rest of the spool up is smooth and steady. The way i've dealt with the initial jump is to hand spin the blades before i engage the throttle. works okay.

I am hoping to get out and do a test flight or two tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how it went if i am able.

Okay, here is the update!

Nice day, 45 degrees, light southwest wind. The headspeed at hover in governor mode was 1890 at 80% throttle curve (I have subsequently learned that my ESC will drop the current in a hover 6% in governor mode at 90%, so i'll have to try that). The power was more than ample, and the heli was quiet and smoooootttthhhhh! I might like to try a 12 tooth pinion, to lower the headpeed a bit further, but it seemed to perform very nicely where it was. I think 14 tooth pinion will be too much headspeed, but i might try it just for grins.

I flew circuits, asynch loops forwards and backwards, big outside/inside loops, funnels (inside and outside) and some pirouetting tumbles, without any problems! The roll cyclic needs to be bumped up a bit, but otherwise, the heli felt very "locked in" for such a little guy. The headspeed varied about 50 to 100 rpm during aggressive 3d. I might take a bit of pitch out, to avoid those larger drops in headspeed that we saw when i really dug into the collective.

After 5 min, a motor temp check revealed a temp of 105 degrees (heatsink on, no fan installed as yet), and the ESC and battery were 20 degrees cooler. Successive temp measurements revealed similar temps throughout the flight.

I flew a total of 17.5 min and the headspeed started dropping (that was moderately aggressive aerobatic flight throughout). A recharge of the battery (8s2p) put 3.8 amps back in, so i think that was an appropriate flight time (wouldn't want to discharge the battery any further than that).

All i can say is that this is one very aerobatic, smooth and powerful little heli. I am very happy with it. I then flew my Vigor CS (OS Cspec power) to compare. Of course, it has ballistic power, and the cyclic inputs were more crisp, but overall, I think i'll love flying my little Logo as much as any heli i've ever owned!

Sounds great, I'm going with the B50-16XL and 8s2p's. I'm wanting to use a Schulze 32.40 controller since I have had excellent results with Schulze in the past. Is your 16XL one of the new ones with the C50 stator? Also, your speaking of possibly a 12 tooth pinion, are you running an 1/8 inch shaft? Thanks for the info.

I don't know which stator is in there. Its the standard shaft diameter, I didn't know a 12 tooth wouldn't fit on there?

I think with a 5mm shaft a13 tooth is the lowest you can go.
