e-Minicopter Joker > Joker - 9202 question

Hi, y'all, happy holidays!

I am finishing assembling the Maxi-Joker, and will be using a set of 9202 servos.

Questions to those who have been there before me - which servo arm do you find works best? The little round one, 5-star, 4-star, etc?

And which hole in said arm?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg

You got it, great. Mine should be here in about 5 or 6 days. I went for the CX as mine is only going to be a still rig, I'll keep it quite light.

If need be I can go up to the Maxi later but for now it suits me fine.

Sorry can't help on the Servo issue, do they recommend a servo arm length for the CCPM, that should get your hole distance. If its in between the large round wheel might come in handy, but I don't think you'll need that.

Its great your asking al the questions, saves me doing it next week

Out of interest what power supply, batteries and charger have you gone for ???

I'm going with 3300's at the moment with the charger I purchase able to handle LIPO's (Possibly the Orbit Pro) If business does well then I'll go for LIPO's but they are too much of a stretch for me at the moment.

Servo Arms

Check out the recommendation in the Joker Manual (text)
If I remember correctly you want an arm with 18mm or 18.5mm of reach. This dimension is measured from the center (screw hole) of the pivot arm to the hole you put the ball link. I've also seen setups using "Dubro Super Arms" also. They are Heavy Duty.

Happy Holiday,
BigRagu

BigRagu:
I would have loved to follow the recommendation in the manual, however it just shows a picture of the servos and how to install them, nothing about arm distances, or for that matter pushrod lengths, etc. Where did you see them?

Lee:
I just went for the 3300NiMh packs for now, configured at two 16-cell packs so that the Triton I already have will charge them. The next purchase will be a bigger charger (for both NiMh and LiPo) so I can charge multiple packs at the same time, then the plan is to get the LiPo set(s!) after that.

When you go to put it together, let me know first - there are a few major gotcha's in the manual unless you know some tricks and you can easily mess up a few parts - starting with step #1. Those little skid inserts don't quite fit in, and once you start them in there is no way to get them back out! Turns out there is a small bump on the inside of the skids for the entire length, you have to line up the holes by eye and then take a hacksaw and make a corresponding groove in the insert and they will slide in perfectly. But if you start one in, there is nothing else you can do but hammer it down to the hole, and if you are unlucky, you will then have to drill and tap it because it will twist just enough so that it won't line up and there is no way to rotate it - not even with a heat gun to try to expand the skid. Want to ask me how I know all that???

A couple of other steps are out of order in terms of ease of assembly, like the plastic holders for the two side CCPM servos, put them in BEFORE you put the frames together or you will have a job ahead of you to get in there to hold the nut.

And the pictures show holes in the boom to screw in the insert, but there aren't any holes. None of these things are a big deal, but it just makes the kit more difficult than it has to be to assemble. But aside form these few minor glitches, it is going together beautifully!

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg

Thanks for the tips, I shall get back to you when it arives as I'll be straight on it.

Not quite sure what you mean about the bumo in the skids, as soon as the kits here I'm sure I'll know :-)

Have a great Xmas
