Can anyone explain or does anyone have any photos of how they have 'grounded the boom' to avoid ESD?

It's all right here:

The inexpensive answer is to simply run a ground wire from the tail boom to a ground, like the motor skin or battery. I ran one from the boom (tapped a hole through the side of the frame where it holds the boom in place, into the aluminum of the boom, and ran a wire from a shcs threaded into that hole, to one of the motor mount screws. I am still building, so i can't say that it made anything better, but that should eliminate any potential esd. One less thing to worry about, and cheaper than the admittedly very nice metal tail in the link above. I'll get one of those when i can order it in the states, perhaps (low priority upgrade part, since the "3D" tail in stock form looks pretty good.

This is exactly what I plan to do, run a wire from the tail boom and connect it to the bolt head underneath the chasis that screws into the motor casing just to be on the safe side.

I fly a Logo 20 with an Aveox motor and controller. My first flights would only last 20 seconds before the esd would shut down my ESC. I gounded the boom to the negative side of the battery and have flown trouble free for 10 hours of flight time. I just converted a Raptor 50 recently with a Hacker motor and controller and it would take hits from somewhere and the tail would twitch. I did the same thing and grounded the boom to the negative side of the battery and it has flown just fine for just a little over 5 hours. I think the motor skin would be fine as well, but I haven't done that so I can't comment. Just don't do both. I know my Hacker motor case is hot (as in it has voltage on it) when the speed controller is sending power to it, so it would be bad to ground it to the battery. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the details Martahon Man. We had discussed in a previous post if the E-Raptors would show the same tendency to develop ESD given they have a different drive belt construction. Obviously your experience suggests that they do. Grounding is easy and should be routine as you suggested.
DId you E-Raptor have plasitic or metal tail rotor gears and/or gear box?

I'm using the stock plastic gears. I have a friend who flies the same setup, and he hasn't grounded the boom yet. He doesn't seem to be having any ESD proplems, but he did however have a crash that the thought was a bad servo. It makes me think though........With what Ive seen posted here and with my own experience, I don't think you can be too careful. I've grounded the boom as well as installed ferrite rings on the ESC and the tail servo. I thought I was having problems with my tail servo because it would twitch every so often, but it became apparent that the speed controller was glitching just for a second. Flying great now. The E-Raptor flies a lot nicer than I thought it would.

I'm waiting on delivery of a new Logo 10 Carbon and am wondering if I will have the same issues with this. With a carbon boom and side plates what is the likely outcome static wise?
