My Hacker ESC worked fine up to now it runs on 14 cells 3300 and turns a hacker C15 15L.

Lately it starts shutting down the motor half way into the flight around 3 to 4 min. I land (auto) and a few seconds later it spools up again.

It works for another 20 sec. or so under flight conditions and than shuts down again. This repeats until pack is empty.

Receiver power via the installed UBEC is always there. No problem with working servos or gyro.

Unit is not hot 94 degrees measured. The unit is fairly new has maybe 20 flights on it.

Does anybody have any suggestions.

Thanks

Make sure that your gear meshes are not too tight, this is real easy to do and is best set by eyeball and not a piece of paper. You can feel the right amount of backlash but no drag on the gear train.

Make sure that the controller is mounted where it can get enough cooling. This may mean cutting a hole in the cowl to facilitate enough cooling on the ESC.

Make sure that all of your connections are good and the solder joints are very good. If not this can lead to too much current draw and cause a heating problem.

At any rate, you either have a cooling issue or a heating one . Take care of this and you problem should go away.

Hope this helps!

Gear mesh is perfect, very low drag, canopy has 6 vent holes, connection "seem" to be good but I have to recheck them.

As I mentioned before I measured 94 degrees on the ESC, I don't think that's excessive ??

Leaves me with checking soldering connections and if they are good I guess I have a faulty unit ??

Have you tried another battery pack? It almost sounds like the pack is dumping under load. After it sits it comes back just enough to spool up. I have seen a hacker controller thermal before, but it did not shut the motor completely off. When it the hacker controller starts to overheat power output is decreased, not shut off like others.
94 degrees is well below the thermal point for that controller as I have seen them run much hotter without any problems.

There were some sporadic problems reported due to wrong or not correct motor timing and switching frequency settings. Problem with those settings is that even wrongly set motor usually runs but not as it should. Check this maybe it is a part of the problem.
