Blades, Night Flying and Painting > Night Flying ? for Rappy 30

Help! I have my spare Raptor 30 ready to try night flying. I have the blades on and have flown them several times to make sure pitch and throttle curves are correct. I'm trying to figure out where and how to mount the 9v battery and the transformer for the rope lights. Also the best way to mount the rope light on the canopy?
It is dark and cold here by 6:00 pm so if I want to fly during the week this is the only way to do it.

Terry - what blades are you using? I have a spare on the shelf and am looking to do the same thing. I want to leave one set up for night flying in the winter so I can head out after work on week days if the weather is good. BTW - where did you get the light rope? I found a great source for the Cxylum stix at an Army Surplus store for $0.85 each and bought a bunch for the winter.

I'm using MS 550 night blades, very nice blades. I'm thinking about getting some MS blades for regular flying if they are as good as the Night blades. Light rope is by Glow Wire and light sticks for skids is by Walmart. I had the machine up in the air about dusk the other night with just the blades and it is soooooo coool. Can not wait to get the rest done so I can fly. Work has been 7 days a week since time change if I'm real lucky I get home in time for one flight shortly before dusk.

Yea, it gets so dark early and I am actually considering making my Rappy night flyable. I do fly at night though in parking lots. I gotta find a stadium or something so I can really take her out and fly her around.

As for rope light, just cut neat holes in the canopy and use zip ties to mount the rope light. You can outline the shape of your canopy from the side and make a centerline on the canopy so you have good references when your flying.

MS Blades

Terry - I just put a set of MS 550's on my Rappy, OS 32, Weston, and they are GREAT. I had SAB's on there before and had the woof and poof flutters really bad. Get a set soon!!!

Mike,
I also have the weston on my main Rappy, but I am using woodies until I get better at 3-d and inverted. Then I can justify (in my mind) putting good blades on it. I use it to learn on and so it gets dorked once in a while. I see by your sig that you have 2 Rappys and a concept 60, I do also, I just put a GY502 on my Concept. I like it very much.

Concept ? Parts

Hey Sky - I doinked the Concept a couple of weeks back. Do you have a secret stash of parts somewhere? I need a front frame (servo tray), Fly Bar, Main Shaft, and a set of skids if I will rebuild it. The canopy and Carbon boom came out fine...

Sorry to hear you dorked it, I have a box of used parts for the 60 I think I have a servo tray, as far a s skids go I use MinAir's Tuff Strutts on everything I replace (Rappys included)
I will check to see if I have a servo tray when I get home from work today. I will also see what else I have in my spares box, I think I have a complete head (SR, I think?) assembly I run the metal head (SRII) on mine. I don't think I have a mainshaft.
I will let you know
