| Stu,
have someone with a tach help you set it up. Start out with the gap around 10mm or 3/8". Don't try to limit your headspeed with the throttle curve too much, let the pipe do it. Adjust the pipe for the desired headspeed, shorten it for a higher headspeed, lengthen it for a lower headspeed. Adjust your needle to keep it just on the rich side.
If you try to adjust the headspeed using just the throttle curve, it will emulate an improper needle setting. ie, if your headspeed is too low and you try to increase the throttle curve, your engine will emulate a rich condition. You will need to shorten the pipe.
If your headspeed is too high and you try to limit it with a lower throttle setting, you will notice the engine going lean in decents as the throttle closes. You will need to lengthen the pipe in this instance.
It may take a few tries to get the proper balance, but well worth the work.
Nothing sings like a properly tuned engine/pipe combo
Going back to a 9.56:1 ratio will suck a ton of fuel and cause you to have to shorten (cut) the header substantially to get a decent headspeed out of it. |
