e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > Triton---minimum amp input

I converted a PC power supply to power my Sirius Charge. It only has a 1.8 A max output. It works fine on the Sirius charge which only requires 1.5 A. I am considering getting a Triton in the near future. What Amp draw does it need to charge a 2150 NiMH pack at like 1A(not sure how fast you can charge NiMH). I have another 4.5 A power supply laying around and I was just wondering if I should bother converting it if it isn't going to have enough output.
Thanks

What type of PC power supply is it? I've never seen nor heard of a PC supply with only 1.8 A on the 12 V line.

Here is a quick way to estimate your input requirements. This is only an estimate...

Isupply = (Peak battery pack voltage)*(Charging current) / (0.8 * Vsupply)

The only name I found on it was TUV Rheinland. (German I'm assuming)

On the top of the power supply it has the output as =+12v-------0.0-1.8A

I'm new to this so I'm not sure. It seems to be right though.

I'm not sure I am doing your calculations correctly.

I have Isupply=(5.5V)*(.5A)/(.8)*(12v)

Oh, so is it a laptop power supply then? When most folks talk about converting a PC power supply they mean the type that go inside a computer case and have -5, +5, -12, +12, and 3.3 V outputs.

Thats what it does have. I took it out of an old computer. I mean old. It has the -5V and +5 and -12V.

I edited my earlier post. Are my calculations correct? Comes out to be like .29 which doesnt seem right.

0.29 A is correct for the numbers you put in but I'm not sure where you got the numbers because even a 4-cell pack peaks at more than 5.5 V.

When you say that you want to charge a "2150 NiMH pack at like 1A", how many cells in the pack?

Its a 4 cell pack. peak at like 5.6 or 5.7?
I'm not too sure.

I would recommend this one http://ramboy.com/cosel.htm over the Target one. Same price including shipping.
