While it's true retract servos don't have endpoint adjustments, this isn't too big of a deal. What you have to do is try different combinations of horn positions and linkage lengths.

For example, if you start with the horn moving from 12:00 to 6:00 you will probably have too much throw (which was the case for me). To reduce the throw, I moved the horn so it swung from 1:00 to 7:00. It just takes a little patience and experimentation.

The other benefit to using retract servos is they do not drain your battery pack. They only draw current when moving from endpoint to endpoint.

I built Century Bell 222 and the Airwolf (these are 30 size). The retracts work fine as they said. I'm using the cheapest Hitec 422. They are good enough for these retracts. I don't see why you need retract servos for it, since the mechanics works very smoothly.
Here some pictures of my bell222

Hi hoh,

What retracts did they give you? Are they the black plastic ones thet have the FK logo on the bottom as viewed from the bottom of the heli? Can you show some pictures of your setup?

From what I have seen, the others are using different retracts. These plastic ones are not very forgiving on the setup. The actuator rod is small and bends and that creates alot or binding. Also I still belive the front bellcrank location is off. I will know for sure tomorrow as I am going to get this stuff working, even if I have to change the front setup to something that will. Im getting tired of all this setup just for the retracts and want to get on and paint this thing already. Its taking the fun out of it.

But I did get the rears working with some modification to the wood and made some new linkage as my shuttle would not fit in even though they claim it will on there chart.

Finally!!!!

Well Guys;

I finally got it all working, I have to say when I first received the kit, I was very, very excited. Well I not that excited anymore, and I hope as I finish the kit my excitement level picks up.

My initial thoughts of the geometry being all wrong, WAS CORRECT! I had to make a few changes to get it to work and Also I had to replace and remove some wood along with re-drilling a new hole for the front bell crank.

I must say,,, Century,,, I am disappointed in the retract system and you will get a call from me on Monday morning to discuses the time involved verses what I paid for it, and what you claim.

Any how I will post some photos of the set up if anyone is interested in seeing it.

As they say. You need patient to get into scale. Plus a little creativity will help.
Enjoy it.

Retracts

This is a hobby for me, it's about thinking and having to use your brain to solve problems. What would be the fun in it if everything was easy.

I will have to agree with Dr. Tim. Buy a vario. I've built two of them. When I go to ff's. I look at the centuries. The quality is knoware near the varios. My A-Star fell together. Plus It's big. I swing the 765's on a three blade head. Flying weight is 10 1/2 pounds. I'm not lying. It is lighter than my roomates freya. That rossy will out climb his p&b. I will never hesitate to buy another vario. You may feel that they are over priced. You get what you pay for. I feel there price just right.

Dougg,

Id agree with you IF I wanted a show heli. But for an everyday flyer,,,,,,, I think the Century is priced just right. Be sides when the heli is moving 20 yards infront of you,,, You cant tell the difference.

Just my take ,, I might be wrong.

AIRWOLF!!!

I fly mine just about once a month, sometimes more but, The sound and presence of a 22 Lb. Heli looking at you from 20 yds. away swinging 800 mm Blades make a sound and look that ONLY a Big Copter can make!! You don't have to build this for show but, why wouldn't you! We all take Pride in everything we do Don't We?

A little bit of Time, a little bit of Blood, Alot of Tears and awsome Benzin Mechanics!!! If your interested it is for sale ($3500 with out Receiver, $4000 w/ 8103 ready to fly!!!) all JR Coreless, gy401 w/9253 on the tail and some big retract servos(2) to yank the gear up!! This heli is flown often but, with a little wet sanding and some detail work this could be a show stopper!!

I have $390.00 in the kit. $450.00 in the mech. $360.00 in the engine and pipe. $350.00 in the head and blades. Plus the standerd radio stuff. And, Yes............ you can see the differance at 20 ft. I didn't build a show heli. Mine is a flyer.

Cost $$$

Micro Rotors -- you missed the cost of JR coreless servos and the 9253 with the GY401 -- and my cost for sale includes my time. If I had used 9202 servos and the (Half my RG) I would only have about $1500 or so in this!! I used a special Paint that changes from Green to A Dark Blue but, I can still see the Carbon Fiber -- By the way is yours Plastic? Hmmm let me think -- about the same price but bigger, Gas engine, Carbon Fiber, Cockpit, ---- Nope I will stop right there!! This is not about whose is better, it's about helping each other out so, If you need some help getting those retracts working properly I will shoot some photo's of my airwolf. I know they are different in size but, the retracts should work about the same! We can argue price but were is the comparison? A .30 size copter to a Gasser? You can NOT compare Price nor Performance Nor Looks. So If that is what you are trying Micro Rotors You have choose the wrong person as well as the wrong heli but, If you are simply trying to compare price then you can't afford this hobby and I would reccomend RC Cars.

You are missing the point.

Tim,

No one here is having a pi**ing match with you. You came into the post saying I should have bought a Vario, right?

I said they cost too much!

And it went on from there. Its not that I don’t have the money, It just makes absolutely no since to do that with an every day flyer. My fuse is glass, you would know that if you looked at the topic of this thread and saw that it is about a Century fuselage and went and actually saw the pictures in the link that were posted instead of trying to tell me to get a Vario.

Carbon Fiber,,,, you ask,,, well I did lay C/F in the floor of the fuselage for strength in holding the mechanics in hard landings. Why would I want to see the C/F on the finished product? Sounds like Corvette envy to me!

As far as the retracts,,, Again you should have read instead of trying to sell me on the idea that I should have a Vario, They are in with retract servos and working just fine.

As far as comparing .30 sized heli to a gasser,,,, who is doing that other than you! Certainly not I. Why do I need a Vario, I am happy with this 30 sized heli and it didn’t need to be a "Gasser" to do the job.

As far as the RC Car remark,, I have seen you say this allot in the forum and you try to use it to belittle people,,,,, well I think most of us think that is pretty childish of you. Are you trying to impress us by saying you have a boat load of cash? It is not working Tim.

I hope you cat take this with constructive criticism and learn something from this.

Thanks for your impute anyhow.
