What size images do the clients tend to request?

and can a 4MP digital Camera be used for the most part for these requested sizes?

Oh

So your saying that its not possible to get good photo results from "Consumer grade" cameras or is that just in video?

Most of mine want digital images on CD so they can use pics on the internet AND/OR take the cd and have images printed.

Otherwise 8x10's. That is as big as I can print on the spot.

Chad

He said
"produce true, professional grade images using a consumer grade"

As I read that it didnt mean
"not possible to get good photo results from Consumer grade"

It meant
"produce true, professional grade images using a consumer grade"

Professionals dont spend money on a 1Ds and as much again on lenses for laughs.
Show them a 300D or other "Prosumer" for their level of work and they will laugh.

You can get a good picture with prosumer level cameras, but a good picture doesnt meant its a true, professional grade image.

What you need to have just depends on the work you will be getting and spending more is probably a waste.
But some do need to spend a lot more.
Not me thankfully.

Pro vs. Consumer..

I agree with you there. I have seen shots taken from that new 300D and they don't hold a candle to ones taken with even the D100 (a entry level "PRO" camera IMO)
That is my big quandry right now as I research a Digital SLR.
I still cannot find the reason why it is so.
Composition is everything though and you always have to weigh what you want vs. the consumer needs.
IMO you won't find much need for bigger than 11x14 or so from an aerial platform. I am sure there are times when a customer may want bigger, but I would think the majority of the work will be 8x10 or smaller (advertising).
My .02 from a cameraship wannbe.

35mm Pro Entry Level SLR

Hi,

If you're wanting to go down the route of digital SLR in the group of entry level Pro rated camera's check out the reviews about on the Fuju S1 Pro.

Its quite capable of sitting on an Airfoil V2 Mount (I have this on an Xcell Gasser however). Slight mods need to be done to operate the shutter.

There's always a few about on Ebay (circa $800). You can pay this for a decent Prosumer camera too!

The beauty of the S1 is that is takes the Nikon range of lenses too so "the world's your oyster" with plenty of suppliers (Sigma, Tamron) supplying this fitting too.

Try this link for a review on the S1 Pro:

Good Luck

"Not all subjects require extreme technical virtue, but it's nice to have around anyway because it discourages the competition".

I think Mark Johnson asked an interesting question and this forum is visited, for the most part, by hobbyists who are not interested in your educational background or how much money you make. The majority of your response to a guy that asked a reasonable question was very condescending.

Next time, just ATFQ, genius, and spare us the pompous responses.

....

well, though all the information given so far, I have gotten:
-8x10's
-11x14's ( usually not many request bigger then this ).
-give them a CD with the images, they do what they will with them.

My other question was, "Can a 4MP camera achive these prints? ie: 11x14, 8x10 etc....

Thanks for the _useful_ input so far.

poll

Well, the poll right now looks like that 8x10's are the most requested.

Thanks for your polling information.

Yes, great 8x10's. I can't really speak about photos larger than 8x10 because it hasn't been required of me.

WOW

how did this thread get so hostile?

I can't speak for others but I think idahoairships deals with a completely different market then I do. It appears he knows his stuff when it comes to camera equipment.

My customers are interested in a view of thier subject that they can't even get any other way, but if they have to spend big bucks to get it, then they really aren't interested.

Quality always matters but in my case the customers aren't going to buy a Rolls Royce when a Chevy is all that is required.
