Henseleit 3DNT - Rocket - 3DMP > Stop that Horizontal Fin coming off!

Mine used to come off quite regularly - not at first, but seemed to come off more once it had been re-fitted even after thoroughly cleaning it all down between .

I drilled three holes into the edge of the fin itself (think I used a 2mm drill) very carefully. I then filled them with epoxy and fitted three screws (from a servo fixing pack) through the vertical fin, added a fillet of epoxy top and bottom and left for a couple of days to set nicely .

Result - it's been a good few months now since I was having to spend ages looking for that little piece of carbon when it decided to leave the model behind .

I know I should be looking more toward the cause of the detachment in the first place but most of it was more down to the knocks it got from the trips down from the loft, into the car, and onto the flying field than from any vibration on the model itself in fact there was no shake at all except in the highest head speed where it was visibly present and that was only used for 'extreme hot doggin' which I don't really do all that much of .

You might find that you don't need anything, but if you do then this method has worked well for me - might be useful to you?

Cheers
Richard.

Best way of preventing it falling of is just do not put it on to begin with. He He He. Seriously - if you in to fast backwards flight I suggest leave it off. Having it on makes backwards moves a lot more difficult - with it on fast forward flight is a bit smoother. ---- my opinion ------

The best way to prevent it to fall is to eliminate sources of vibrations.

On the 3DNT I saw, some had small vibrations because :

The AC belt was not tight enough, this one is the most common,
The rotor speed was not right, there seems to be a resonance around 1600-1650 rpm, so if you see small vibrations, try to increase slightly the speed of the rotor
The AC belt is twisted inside the boom, 1/4 of turn is required, but I saw more than once 3/4...
The flybar is unbalanced, due to mispositionning of weights or of the paddles,
the paddles are misaligned...

Last, the fin falled already at least once and was glued again without cleaning and removing the old glue.

It is anyhow a good idea to drill to holes in the vertical fins and add two tie-wrap to secure it.
