Aerial Photography and Video > Downlink Operating Frequencies in the UK?

Hi Chaps,

I'm having one of those "bargain bucket" days and have got the chance to buy a 2.4Ghz downlink (TX/RC) combination but without the power supply or casings for them. This kit runs at 500Mw. Am I pushing my luck in terms of power running this in the UK without licensing?

If this is so a go go, are there any of you electronics guru's out there that would like the chance to fit the lot together with power supplies and casings. Cost not a problem (well you know, leave the 0's off please!!)

Many Thanks

Keith.

Most of the cheap video link TXs indicate consumption instead of power on the aerial. Most likely this is 500mW consuption which will produce an putput power within the allowed 50mW.

Example.. mine consumes 180mA at 12V = 2160mW but output on the antenna is the 50mW legal limit.

Example2... Maplin video link TX (order coede DV58Y)... 12V * 65mA = 780mW, but output power is stated 10mW at the spec.

Re: Power Output

Hi Angelos,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've got the spec sheet and it states the following below. Guessing from what you've stated was within the limit of 50mW transmission, this thing would power the fleet!!

2.4 GHz ISM band range
500mW output power
Small 2.4GHz transmitter (30 x 44 x 9.8mm / 1.2 x 1.7 x 0.4inch)
Transmitter ultralightweight, 20g / 0.04lbs.
Color compatible
Audio compatible
Can be used on any CCD, CMOS camera, incl. Camcorders or output from VCR, DVD etc.
EIA/NTSC compatible

If that's a real 500mW output power you will have a serious battery problem. 500mW out will consume close or more than two Amps. I assume that you would like at least one hour of operation. Now imagine the weight of a 2Ah, 12V battery pack.

500mW

Thanks Angelos,

You've answered my problems!!

Stick to what we all know eh!!

Thanks for your time.

That sounds like a lot power output/current handling for a transmitter that weighs less than an oz. Sounds like a typo to me.

Arthur,

Isn't that CCT1394 link astronomically expensive?

Julian,

Probably, It was given to me by a friend so I never did check the price.
It certainly works very well.

expensive... sure is

I just phoned them up and asked for the CCT1394 price. They told me it is now discontinued due to the digital version being released for Christmas. So I asked how much that was. £6000 ($11000). Well if my wallett was only big enough to carry around £6000 they might have had a sale.... yeah right!
