Just got my 3DNT so am now a proud owner of this fantastic machine. On checking over it , I wondered how do you guys refuel ?

Do you take the canopy off and check or count so many turns etc ..

I have one of those one way re-fueling values and wondered if i could mound it on the skids , but dont fancy taking the canopy off every time.

Cheers

You can do what aeroplane guys do. Remove the tube from the pressure fitting and pump until fuel comes out.

Since the exhaust is under the engine, you may be able to get away with just watching until the exhaust starts to fill with fuel.

Hi Darren,

Been re-fueling mine all day hence the late reply

I always take the canopy off mine - a good chance to do those 'post flight checks'. With the canopy fixings so easy to use it really is easy.

I wouldn't think using one of those fuelers on this model would be too ideal as the length of tubing from the carb to the clunk would almost tripple and that can't be a good thing .
Also you may get air leaking through the seal on them causing a lean mixture run and you definately don't want that one .

I normally fill to the bottom of the where the clunk line comes out of the tank - I know the exhaust line is higher than that point so I don't end up filling the pipe and I still get much more than the 10 minutes I fly for at a time. I've flown a full tank for over 25 minutes before now but limit my time in the air to 10 - just look at how much fuel you have left over before you fill up again and you'll be surprised.

You'll also find it difficult draining the tank (I like to keep everything empty when I've finished a flying session) as the clunk can't lift all the fuel out. I take as much as I can out with the pump and then run the motor and go for a hover till it's dry - then you'll find out how good the 'auto' performance is .

Cheers
Richard.

Funny you should say that, there was some fuel left in there and i too get paranoid about leaving it in, so unpluged the bottom pipe , the one with the bung in but nothing came out .... whats this one for ??

So used the pump to wind it all out , but it takes a while

Cant wait to try out the autos She is one nice heli

I know the new ones have a pipe which plugs into the top of the tank, the reason for the small section of tube inside the tank on yours is so that you can fill it up and then drain from the filling tube till there is are then when you pull the connection off the tank doesn't drain while you are trying to plug it again

You could have it going straight into the bottom of the tank, can't see any reason not to other than the above. The muffler line however needs to have some tube inside or you'll be 'blowing bubbles' into the fuel and contribute to 'foaming', the tube should be higher than the fuel level (unless you're inverted! ).

You have a seperate filling tube so that you don't have to keep pulling the line off the carb - and weakening it.

Cheers
Richard.

I take canopy off. I use header tank so I plug the "fill" line to tank on my 2003 model and take pipe off the filter before carb. In my experiance with refuler valves - BAAAAD idea. My clunk sucks every last drop out of main tank - 2003 model may have differant clunk???? Using webra only 7 1/2 to 8 min. time per tank at 1780 rpm
