I am planning to convert my Ergo 30 to Electric. I thought it would be an interesting project to embark since the Ergo 30 is sitting there collecting dust.

I have already done some research about the conversion, but most of them covers Raptor conversion and none about Ergo 30's. This is what I have came out with.

1) Motor - Mega 22/45/3
2) Battery - 18 cells
3) ESC - Castle Creation 45 amps
4) Gear Ratio - 8.8:1

I am not sure what batteries to get. Given the fact all up weight will be my main concern and secondary would be the flight time with mild 3D.

As far as weight is concerned, I have weight all nitro components that I have removed. ie Engine, Fuel tank, throttle servo, fan shroud, pipe etc etc. and it gave me 820grams. Common sense tells me that the E-parts should not be more then 820grams. By the way the Mega weight in at 300grams.

Some quick strokes on the calculator for 18 cellsgave me these figures;
Battery Type Size Discharge Unit Weight Total Weight
HR1950FAUP A 4/5 20-30 39.7 714.6
CBP2100 A 30+ 39.7 714.6
CP2400SCR SC 30+ 57.7 1038.6
Kokam 3000 3s2p 24 212 424

The Kokam 3000 figures really look impresive, however if I decide to get the Kokam's I will also need to invest a LiPo charger. I am looking at a schulze ISL 330rs. But that will set me back a couple of hundred clams. I know the biggest bang for the buck would be a Triton, but I believe the Schulze is a better charger. I dont want to caught in a situation that I have to upgrade the charger from a Triton later.

So what do you think I should get to make this project succesful?
