I think everyone who was present that day needs to do a notarized statement and submit it to the family should they decide to pursue liability against the city or county.

I lost a buddy to an airplane strike a couple years ago. almost the same conversations went on analyzing what happened, and endless speculations, what if this, or what if that. We talked about a million new rules, none of which were implimented because most of us knew none of the new rules could have saved our friend, and we were already taking all reasonable steps to keep risk to a minimum. The conversations were not helpfull in any way. It is a tragedy, but what happened, happened.

Best regards and blessings to all,

Julie, Billy and Scott,

I'm sorry for your loss and pain that your going through, I pray that you all recover and move on with all this. I ahve to lost a friend before in a hobby/sport related accident. My wife was an EMT and now works in surgury, but I would have to say, if the times seem defferent, check it out, I had read something also that it took a long time for them to arive. But in a stiuation like that minutes seem like hours.

Skydvr79,
I know how it is with EMT's, no respect or thanks. As I said above my wife was an EMT, and the pay is lousy, but you do it because you love to help. But I would also like to say, poeple make misstakes, and maybe there is something there Julie needs to look into. But at any rate, thanks Skydvr70 for the work you do.

Julie,

1st of All I am truly sorry for your loss. There are many things in these posts that are both positive and negative so I feel compelled to enter in my 2 cents.

For the last seventeen years I have served the public as a Firefighter/Paramedic and now as a Captain/Paramedic. These types of accidents are very traumatic and time seems to stand still for the people awaiting EMS services.

What was the location of the responding EMS crew from the scene in miles? How long did it take for Dispatch to dispatch the call? What time did the responding crew acknowlege the call?

This is all acurate information, as said above 911 and radio traffic is taped and you can obtain a transcript of the records for a small fee. These records are time stamped by a computer for authenticity as legal documents.

With that said I am not upset like other posts with you concern for what appeared to be a delayed response by EMS staffing. It appears to me you are trying to obtain facts about what happened as would any other normal person. As far as getting statements from people present about what they saw or didn't see I would wait until you obtain information on the response times, no need to open healing wounds.

I do not know how far away your field is from the nearest hospital or community with EMS staffing, all of these things factor into response times for EMS personnel. As far as the time of arrival for the EMT's and paramedics they may be different. In some communities 1st responders are EMT's, not Paramedics. The EMT's provide basic life support life saving procedures until the arrival of the Paramedics who have advance life saving capabilities. I hope that is understandable.

For all of you in rural areas out there flying please take this into consideration. If your aerodrome is in an area where you know the response times are long please take this into consideration:

1) If you have a severe injury of this nature when you call 911 be specific on what you tell the dispatcher. The more accurate and complete the information you provide will assist the dispatcher in sending resources to the location.

2) If you have a serious traumatic injury (like this was) and you KNOW you have extended response times for EMS staffing request an air ambulance (Helicopter). As we all know these helicopters are fast, not limited to roadways and they also have advanced life support providers on them

Lastly, Throwing rocks at each other in this forum does not help anyone. If i have offended anyone I apologize in advance, but would appreciate you send me a private message versus blowing your stack on the boards here.

Yours truly,
Phil

I think it is time to lay this to rest , i was at the field the day of the accident and i was the one the made one of the 911 call's. What seemed like a long time for ems to arrive took just as long for the 911 operator to find out it it was a city or county call and who to dispatch to the scene , after all reports it seems that the only thing that would of help RONNIE was that THEY did not fly THAT helicopter on this day. We never did hear what truly caused the accident to happen at the field that day but some of us have a idea but we won't go there in a open forum like this .

So to all EMS and EMT's keep up the good work it was the 911 operator and the 1st sheriff who arrived that seemed like they had other things on there mind that day instead of helping others !

Amen that,

I would advise against analyzing the heli. Your husband wants to find out what went wrong, but It does not matter what went wrong, it was an accident which could happen to any of us at any time. Switches and contacts fail, batterys get weak, gears strip, links crack, thumbs do the wrong things, crystals give up, digital fail safes lock up without reason..... the list goes on and on and just about all of these things are going to happen to each of us from time to time and we all know the possibilities of what could happen if any of those things happen at the WRONG time. There is no new knowlege we can benefit from this. The only thing important now is to continue to do what we love.

May or May Not be Appropriate....

For Safety curiosity Julie...Does Billy know if Ron was looking at the Heli or did he hand the controls over and start to walk away...
I ask this Cause I notice that alot of people that help others Fly, Hand the controls over, and turn around...Is walking away a safety issue?
You said in the original post that Billy yelled for Ron to duck...did he see it coming and it was just too quick for him to respond?
Should we not turn our backs on any flying heli... I would really like to know if possible

P.S.
Not to Make Light of a Tragedy, but I was an EMT as well... Time does stand Still and I do think that the Dispathers would have been at fault.
... From the sound of the laceration...applying pressure only slowed the inevitable.... major arterys and veins such as those only give you literally a few minutes before blood loss is unrecoverable....
Helicopter may not have even made a difference either.

BEWARE OF THE RUSE !!!!

This goes out to all of the silent observers who secretly wonder why there has been no answer to a few key questions asked repeatedly yet never responded to. Like JUST HELIS, I was actually there for the accident and also made numerous calls to the 4 bulletin board listed numbers for Harris County to which there was no answer after repeated attempts. I was refused the following information repeatedly by the 911 dispatcher after begging shamelessly while my friend Ronnie desperately needed more help than any of us were capable of rendering him. All calls to 911 were made from celluar telephones so there will be no problem with times, etc. Here is a sample:

Maam could you give me the address of the nearest trauma center?!
No, I can't, I dont have that information, sir.

Well maam, could you give me the address of the nearest Hospital, because we need to take him now?!
I'm sorry, we already have someone in route.

Maam, it has been too long now, give me the address of the nearest Fire station.

Sir I'm sorry, but I cant give you that. We already have someone enroute and I can't override the Officer on the scene!

What!! I'm standing right next to the Officer and he hasn't said or done a single thing. Are you telling me that he is directing you not to give me the address of the nearest Fire Station?!!!!!!! Get me a supervisor right now !!!

And so on............

Don't you find it strange that no clarification of the AMA status of the pilot has been forthcoming from the Billy and wife clan?

Have you ever heard of a competent attorney advising his client to talk about a fatality publicly wherein civil and criminal liability exists for his client? Well thats what they said. Read through their posts!

There are specific reasons for both of these. I never saw Billy's AMA card and I personally got Ronnie's card off the frequency board and made sure that it was incorporated in both the Tom Bass Park's and Harris County Sheriff's reports to protect his family from insurance delays, etc. It has been reported that Billy told many that he has been flying for 9 months and working on his pilot certification and working toward his AMA. What pilot certification?!!!! How do you work TOWARD your AMA?!!!! For crying out loud, even the media has that story.

It is a RUSE gentlemen, subterfuge perfection! They may have fooled the press and the authorities at the scene and even a few of us temporarily. But that's only because they weren't AMA pilots and or they or most of you weren't actually at the scene nor actually knew Ronnie. Most of the Helicopter community is fairly decerning and all will come to light and soon.

Its a shame, but here it is. Ronnie was not a teacher nor was he teaching but simply helping out with adjustments, setup and tweaking as is typical at any R/C Helicopter flyin. I don't believe that Billy has or ever had an AMA membership. I believe that Billy fraudulently held himself out as a competent pilot to Ronnie, the Heli community and to the authorities at the scene. I believe that many of us will be literally OUTRAGED when we learn that even the sympathy we have deluged upon him was fraudulently acquired as well. Harris county to date has been unable to verify Billy's AMA membership! So, there, I said it! I am angry because my friend died likely because he was so friendly and trusting that he was duped into believing that Billy was actually a pilot. IMHO the stories have all been a crock, a hoax designed to protect those most at fault for even being at the park flying a motorized r/c helicpoter in the first place! The promoted storyline was designed to avoid prosecution and arrest and is an extension of the already ongoing deception of all who inquire. That is why you have not received an answer. The truthful answer will unravel the coy plan and shine a bright light where darkness was intentionally painted in to cover a most grievous error and actionable tort.

Never look down on lawsuits before you forget that this country was forged and formed by landmark lawsuits. Anyone can sue anyone for anything even bystanders. The bystanders will have their day in court and the cause of action may or may not be summarily dismissed. Even the term, bystander may be more ambiguous than it might appear and may be a question better left to the courts in pretrial or even a jury. But, no one and I mean no one blocks the timely filing of a cause of action in any court of competent jurisdition, period. Womens, rights, minorities rights, majorities rights, child labor, education and public servant's rights, etc. all forged because of legal challenges aka law suits. They are necessary gentleman and are here to stay. Like it or not, in one way or another we are all the beneficiary of them even thought we must observe their abuse frequently. We must all respect the rule of law because it is all that maintains the balance of powers. I demand justice for my friend Ronnie and his family both from those who caused his death and those who callously stood by during his time of need.
