The reps I know are usually well adjusted individuals. They have fair amounts of knowledge and people skills. In addition, a few of them are fairly stable or even well above financially to spend this much time on a hobby.

IMHO, the reps should be treated like employees. There should be constant supervision of their performance in the field, i.e, correct knowledge on topic, ability to communicate advice, helpful, flying ability, sensitivity to the needs of the company's customers and others, and positive promotion of the hobby. Following quarterly reviews, the status then can be renewed or adjusted to keep those precious jewels and weed out the garbage.

Of course, this is not to say that there are those know-it-alls with ego too big to be of any use to the general community or those just wanted that discount. I had the fortune to came across a few of the garbage in the years past. One of them used the status to con people into trusting him for various reasons and suckered people into buying parts from him or spending money on him. Another was just too proud of his status and started to dish out advice left and right. When encountered with topics that particular REP does not know or understand, he actually starts to BS through the situation. Later, when that REP finally found the correct info from another individual, he actually went back and proclaim he developed the solution.

I have a mix feeling on the status of REP programs, some are treasures to the hobby and others are just plain garbage. You live and learn.

Best rep I ever had was my Pug dogs, I would take them to a few funflys, I swear they are chick magnets! got a few guys to stop too then we could talk heli's in a relaxed manner. LOL I dont care for the current influx of everybody that can 3d a bit becomes a rep, I say let the dogs do it!

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

THIS REP BULLSHI#t IS GETTING OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is with all the bs on this. So what if Century has sighned on 20 reps at a time. So what if the rep isnt better than curtis or just as good. If your flying for the hobby then what does it matter. I agree with some of the stuff Seneca and In2helis are saying but why does it matter what the rep can do or how good he is. What Im getting out of all this is that I have to be able to do "perfect" piro flips, snakes, funnels or whatever in order for me to show off that I love flying hirobo. I like hirobo. Actually I love hirobo! And one day I to want to become a rep. But I dont know now because you all are making the biggest deal about it and making it worse than it ever was. When I thought of being a rep I was like hey cool I like hirobo and I want to show it. I wouldnt push any helicopter on anyone. I say that a personal favorite is the sceadu or freya but other helis all do the same thing. The fury is high qaulity and maint. but alittle more expensive, raptor is the best beginner heli and the sixty raptor is just as good. The freya is in my opinion a high class raptor. It flys better and is cheap to fix. But thats just my opinion. Now when a rep sets a beginner up to fly advanced that is wrong. Your always going to have the one outa five arsholes that do that and walk away. You have to deal with it.
I just cant believe how outa hand this has gotten. Please tell me if Im wrong bout what I get out of all this. Because that IS what it seems like. I have to be equivelent to curtis, alan, Jason or Todd to be a rep. One thing I thought about was what Seneca said. It used to be the reps were the one who were like curtis. But that was when you didnt even have gyros or computer txs. So the ones that had the god given talent were the reps and there was no ifs ands or buts. But like one other guy said it is much easier for the people learning now that the people learning then. We can learn alot quicker because we have the heading hold gyros and the throttle-pitch curves. So your going to have the newbe reps. Its unavoidable. And if century wants to make everyone that flys a rep isnt that good business. If everyone is a rep then everyone is flying century!!!
Im sorry for righting a book and thanks for the ones that read the whole thing!!lol

Yes I see what your saying. It just sucks that its gotten this way. I thought it would be cool to be a rep and show off your love for one brand. I wouldnt ask right now because I think it is something you have to work for. When I had to wear the black beret as a normal cover I did not like it. There are people out there that spent months or careers to gain the priviledge of wearing one of those and now any Joe Shmoe can wear one. So I really do see what your saying but it just sucks. I was looking forward to being a hirobo rep one day but now that all this came out I do think it will change in the "movement of newbie-reps". Let me ask you this though. What do you think the qualifications should be or what guidline should there be to be a rep? If any!!!

You guys need to back off!

I've been into RC 4 years and am familier with the rep program. There are lots of us "regular" guys that need advise and appreciate seeing a good pilot we can look up to. I don't care if the rep is as good as Curtis (whom I've never seen anyway) or not. I can still learn a lot from him.

I certainly respect the skill level you guys have attained. Certainly, many of you are better than all the reps. So why do you have to trash these poor guys? If you want to come to St Louis to help me, I'd love it. But since you aren't, I'm going to continue to rely on the reps that are here for me every day.

Invitation.

I think the big puzzle piece that is missing from a few of the rep programs these days is an "invitation" .
It used to be a "we'll call you" kind of thing. Now it is "hello my name is Rep Wannbe. Can I be a rep for your company?" and SHAZAM! you are one.
Hirobo and Minature are the two biggest companies that I see doing the rep program RIGHT.
Call up Jeff Green or Tim Schoonard and see how far you get asking to be a "rep".
I know for one you will have to have something to contribute to the program for Jeff to consider you. I have talked to him about it before and if there was a need for another rep in my area I would have been one. But there are two in the NW that both do a GREAT job so why add another? I will just be the "unsupported" rep and be happy with that.

Seneca would SUCK as president. He would however be a great DICtator.
