Hi,

I'm just starting to get into electric helis and have just got a secondhand Kontronics Beat 40-6-12 and a Twist 37. I have an 8 cell 3000NiMH batterry and wanted to spin my 385mm blades at about 1900-2000 rpm. I have 14 and 18 toothed pinions and can also buy 15,16,17t pinions. How do I work out what combo to use? The gear ratios are as follows- 14t=20.09:1 15t=18.75:1 16t=17.58:1 17t=16.54:1 and 18t=15.62:1

I tried the 14t and tached the blades at 1640 and hovered for about 7 mins. I tried the 18t and it looked very fast wasn't game to tac it and the battery only seemed to last a few minutes.

Can anyone give me some advise please?

Mick.

What kind of helicopter is this, because those are some really short blades? Is it a Robbe Eolo? Go to this link and you will find a RPM calculator. http://rceheli.com/ss/sheet or this one. http://www.e-helis.com/helicalc.php Try the different pinion combinations in the calculator and it will tell you which one your going to need. BTW, the Twist 37 has Kv=3700. You will need to know this number for the RPM calculator.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Thank you Patrick,

Yes it is an Eolo. Is it worth using 10 cells instead of 8?

Thanks,
Mick.

Hey Mick, you should buy a 15 tooth pinion gear and just use the 8 cell 3000 NiMH. With this combo, you should get a little more then 1800 RPM's. 10 cells will be too much power even for the 14 tooth pinion, it will get you over 2000 RPM's. I would suggest buying a 15 and 16 tooth pinion gear and use the 8 cells. Try both pinions out and see which one you like best.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick
