What is the recommended cure time for lock tite blue?

How long should I wait before I fly my heli after I do a repair that involves re-lock titing various parts of the heli?

Thanks,

Mike

Loctite

Well.. the package said to let it cure for 24 hours... but overnight should be fine.

Over night is fine IMPO but I wouldn't try it any sooner. Better safe that sorry. Know what I mean?

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

Also, I think that it says that you can return to service in a few minutes, with full cure some extended time as PaulRaptor points out.

I have returned to service shortly after locktiteing and never had anything loosen back up on me.

Mileage may vary. I could have been just luckie, but I do remember screwing something back out shortly after useing the locktite and it had already started to sort of gum up.

That's what I was unsure of, I don't have the package for my current bottle of lock tite, but I remember reading about the 24 cure and the imeadiate return to service, both. I just though that my clutch backout happened because the locktite hadn't cured enough.

I think from now on I'll just play it safe and wait the 24 hours...well, at least 12 hours if it's a really nice day, before I fly after a repair.

Thanks everyone,

Mike

Thats what I would do as well. Like I said, it is better to be SAFE than SORRY.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

You can use heat to accelerate cure

Like most adhesives, you can use some heat to accelerate the cure. I have done a little experimenting with this by putting loctite on a connection and then heating the area with a small heat gun. I'm not talking tons of heat here either, as too much heat can degrade the loctite. My small heat gun is just a little more powerful than an average hair dryer. I think it's somewhere around 2000 Watts. Anyway, if I'm in a hurry I quite often apply the loctite, thread the connection, then heat the area with the heat gun. I have found that if I get the surrounding metal/aluminum hot to the touch, say just hot enough that you can't hold your finger on it, then I can leave it to cool and the loctite will cure fine within a few minutes. If you're unsure try it on something easy first, like a muffler connection, then when it's cooled down remove the fastener.

You can also use some "grade "T" primer, the setup time will be about 1 min.
