Has anyone come up with a good way to modify the Sullivan starter to be cordless and run off the two car battery packs?? If so could you post some pics and explain the method and parts?

Thanks,
Darren

Sullivan makes a battery holder for their
starters but clearly, the Hobbico/KSJ method
is more popular.

A company called powerhousebatteries.com
made a custom kind of pack for SteveC's
starter so they can probably do something similar for you.

Here is my setup. No need to by any aftermaket setups. Mine is all home made, I just cut a plastic plate to fit on the bottom on my starter. Used double sided servo mounting tape to secure the batteries to the plate and wrapped two nylon tie wraps around for added strength. Made a pigtail setup that I can unplug to charge each battery at a time. Huge difference in performance. It will spin my YS.80 like it's a .32 Spins my .32 so fast it's almost funny. Im very glad I made the change.

SULLIVAN starter; NOT HOBBICO

Here is the deal, the Sullivan starter case is not constructed the same as the Hobbico one. It does not have the legs for the starter to rest on when you set it down so there is really no way to use those rubber battery holders and fasten them on to the legs that are built onto the Hobbico but NOT the SULLIVAN starter.

I guess I could design some "legs for the SULLIVAN starter and fasten them to the starter and then go from there, but I thought maybe someone has done this to a SULLIVAN starter before; hence making it easier on me.

I realize this can be done very easily on the Hobbico starter.

Sorry for the confusion, but thanks anyway

Not really, but I have a Dynatron starter for my planks that I took 12 2400 Sanyo batteries and made a pack for it.. and strapped it onto some standoffs... I actually bought the cordless mod from Sullivan, but I didn't realize tha the batteries I ordered were way too long for the pack.. so I took the aluminum brackets that the mod came with, and just strapped my home-made battery pack to it, and tapped connectors off of the alligator clip wires... so I can still use either a 12 v battery (or 24v for my large planks) or use the battery.

re:Sullivan starter

Are you talking about the straight flat frames on this starter .What I had done is to attach some small angle iron and then bolt the KSJ rubber to the angle iron . It has been working w/o any problems . Latest addition is 2 7 cell packs to turn over the 80-91 engines

side frames

How about some nice C/F frames for the starter instead of g-10?

I couldn't resist!!!!!!!!
