Is it true when charging new batteries for the first time they have to be slow charged? Would fast charging them for their first charge shorten their lives?

Lastly, do NiMh batteries come already charged?

yes, you are supposed to TRICKLE charge them first time, but i think its all a myth anyway, back when i was into electric R/C cars, i used a few new 6 cell batteries that i didnt trickle charge when they were new, they still had the same life span.

Like which radio to buy, battery maintenance has different opinions. The manufacturer of the Sirius battery changer states that a new pack can be charged on their machine; i think SR battery stated that C/10 is the proper way. When i first purchaced the Sirius charger and a new 1400mAh pack, i used the Sirius to charge the battery. It took around 2 hours to charge and used the charger between flights for the next 5 or 6 flights. That was in 1999 and the battery was still good when i purchased a new radio and replaced the battery 2 years later. Just my 2-cents.
