Wondering if anyone has converted. If so what did you use and what worked best? Thanks

This conversion is harder than you think which is why I have not seen or heard of anybody doing it. Usually the first thing most people do when they have success at something this is post it on RunRyder for all to see.

The problem with converting a Caliber to an electric would be finding a motor that would work perfectly with the existing gearing. I highly doubt your going to find gears and belts, that will work with the Caliber drive train, off the shelf.

Sooner or later someone will tackle the project but, and I might be wrong, don't expect a bundle of "How I did it" replies to your query.

Thats kinda what I thought. I think I'll make a run at it and see what happens.

you mean one on the rc-groups forum? I think that one is by the same person who started this thread, pulsar110.

he is using hacker motor, which has substantially smaller diameter
compare to AXI 4120 type motor.

AXI 41** series motor will barely fit the caliber frame without any modification to the frame.

my proposed aluminum mount can be considered almost universal
for any motor with diameter smaller than 2 inches.

it uses the exact same motor shaft position as the caliber engine crank shaft.

I'm also working on OS wankel engine mount. which does require small frame modification, but will be using the same crank shaft position also.

From what I've been reading on E-Zone there seems to be a problem with current HV controllers not being able to spin the AXIs over 16-17K rpm. I still haven't seen a straight answer about the most efficient RPM range but some of those guys said they would like to see 22-23k or so.

After seeing the trials and tribulations that HankF guy is going through with his AXI in his Raptor I'm starting to wonder.

So how is the AXI going to work in Para's Caliber? I don't recall his battery pack but I think he said he was going to run 24 cells. Also he is limited to one pulley, 26t, until something else can be found.

I have a 4120-18 but was not really wanting to go to 10s so I was considering a set-up like Para's on 7 or 8s.

Mike

PS, I wanted to add that the motor and headspeed numbers for the 4120-14 on 24 cells (assuming 1.05v/cell loaded) and a 26t pulley don't look bad. You get about 16,380 motor rpm but what will the amp draw be? 16k looks like the motor is having to work very hard but I guess thats where the outrunners shine, low RPM lotsa work????

My design can be modified to accomodate any front mount motor that has diameter of less than 2".

It is one piece aluminum sheet construction.

aluminu sheet is by K & S, readily available at LHS.

only tools used to create this is a drill, a scroll saw, a bending brake, and files.

no modification to frame is necessary.
