e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > Schulze chargers with D.C. power supply?

I am looking at getting a Schulze charger, and noticed this on their web site:

The isl 6 charging devices operate on 11 to 15 VDC, but may only be connected directly to a 12 V car battery!
Even regulated power supplies as a rule do not meet the stringent DC requirements of the device!
When isl 6 is connected to the car battery, car must stand still and motor must be switched off.

Has anyone tried to use a power supply with one of these? What happened. I am looking at using a rivergate power supply (30A).

Thanks, Stu

I have a different highend German charger and
they don't place that kind of stupid restriction
on it. I use a13.8v 23A supply and have
no problem.

IMO it shouldn't be a problem as long as
your power supply is a high quality well regulated unit.

There are also other chargers out there.

A flying buddy turned me onto the Orbit series
of chargers. I use a V6. orbitronic.de (or
was it orbittronic.de ?) English manual
available for d/l in pdf. About $170-80 and
maybe a few dollars more for PC interface.

I thought it had more capabilities than the Schulz
6-330 for about the same price. I dont count the
lame fixed second output on the Schulz as having any value.

I bought a Schulze but found the menu system and instructions confusing. I sent it back and bought two Dymond Turbo Chargers for about the same money.
The Dymond chargers are well built, have concise, logical menu systems and work exactly as expected.
I use the two Dymonds to charge two 12 cell, 2400 MAH packs at up to 2C (4.8 Amps) at the same time on a 12 volt, 20 Amp bench power supply.
Splitting long strings of cells into two strings is a much safer approach to cell maintenance. The chargers will detect and react to threshold voltages easier and you will build less memory effect into nicads over many operations.
Enjoy...

Schulze 6-330 works fine on a dc power supply. I've used it for many months now without any problem.
